I don't blame Hasbro for recycling the Masterpiece Grimlock's joints and transformation mechanisms for SS86, but the overall downgrades (not even sparing a little extra plastic to offset that hollow wrist syndrome) feels like an insult of a boot-leg of the MP figure. Oddly enough, I've yet to see side-by-side comparison pics of SS86 with MP Grimlock.
Actually I think this is more fun than most fan videos out there. I love the non-sensical videos Hasbro and Takara are making these days. Catchy song! Arrrh!
I think the marketing department are slowly loosing their minds. But I dig it. I want to see them going bigger, more abstract. If I have to ask myself "is the producer unhinged from reality?" then it's on the right path. I want to see them starting to remake scenes from movies. At first rather innocent ones like say the bike ride from ET but the twist is it's a BotBot as thats an easy thing to pitch... then, then when there's a level of trust slowly get more insane and do a shot for shot remake of The Room.
They are about the same size - MP maybe a cm or two taller - and the MP has better detailing and proportions in dino mode. Wasn't MP Grimlock a $100 toy almost 15 years ago? For a $50 toy in 2021, I think they did an ok job of it. Grimlock - all the dinobots, really - were near perfect in their G1 incarnations short of good joints. The kibble - mostly "wings" and heads hanging down the back - was largely incorporated into the cartoon models, so I don't expect a lot of originality here. Still this is clearly a marketing gag, and there is nothing that the MP Grimlock does here that couldn't be done with the toy currently hitting shelves. Seems like a missed opportunity.
