How long do you play with your Transformers before banishing them to the collection?

So now that I am back in collecting, I am deciding that I want to "play" with my transformers for a longer time. How many of us say, I transformed it once or twice and I put it on the shelf. I use to be that collector.
At the moment, I am trying not to be that guy. I am trying to spend more time transforming the figures back and forth to get it down and appreciate the little things the figures do vs. doing it once and forgetting it.

Funny enough, the hardest thing for me is that I love buying in bulk. So I have like 20 figures lying around. This makes things more difficult, but I plan on spending at least a day with a TF before banishing it to the shelf and/or collection.

How about you guys, you ever think about this? Does buying in bulk impact how much time you spend with the figures?

Buying in bulk makes me more eager to put the figures into my collection. I spend 2-3 days, depending on the figure.

I personally have a collection shelf that is specifically for "new and shiny", and a room for the rest. This shelf is in the living room and is easily accessible, so I mess with the figures a lot more while they're on it.
I do have permanent residents there, but for the most part a new figure will replace an older one which then goes in the collection room.

I keep newer figures on my desk for several weeks before they go on a shelf or back in the box. Toys are a lot more expensive these days so I’m a lot pickier.

It’s not like a decade ago when deluxes were $10 and voyagers were $15. I’d buy every repaint and figures would sit in the shopping bags for weeks, lol.

    Lucky.

My wife gave me a huge area in the basement, but a new and shiny shelf some where else wouldn't fly. I have them on the table for now.

I do the same thing! There is a small shelf next to my computer where new bots hang out until I'm well acquainted with them. I can tell how much I really like a particular figure by how long they inhabit this first shelf. Ones that I love may end up hanging out a few weeks to a month, while duds won't last more than a week or maybe less before they are consigned to the permanent display shelves in another room.
As a side note, there are times when a bot in the more permanent displays will just pop out to me and they get moved to the temp shelf for a second "introduction" period. That's often when I realize just how much I truly appreciate or, dislike a figure that I previously had a different opinion about.

I tend to just grab whatever figure I feel like messing with. I tend not to touch figures I don't like, but otherwise it's fair game to play with whoever, old or new.

I have the advantage of fully owning my house (paid off), and it's technically mine. My girlfriend and daughter love my collection, so don't care where I keep figures. In fact. My daughter has her own tall shelf in the living room she keeps her gaming toys collection on, and my girlfriend has her own study that is packed with her collections (Fallout, Hellraiser, Diablo, chickens...).

My active shelf is actually an old window that I converted to display shelves. My collection proper is in my den.

Transform then into all their modes at least once. Another couple of times I'd I buy reprolabels.

That's all I have time for.

I enjoy the hunt for new figures and the Transformers lore more than the actual toys. More times than not I spend so much time reading reviews, watching video reviews, and hunting for toys in the wild or stalking web sites - than when I get the actual toy - I will just open it up and immediately put it on my shelf. I don’t transform the toys or play with them. But looking at my collection and thinking of them gives me happiness.

I don't display anything so everything ends up in a bin after a few days.

Working from home has made it easier to spend more time with my loved ones.

I constantly cull my collection so it can fit on 3 shelves. This is to make sure all of them get handled. Mostly, "playing" with them involves rearranging the shelves. 20210208_153120.jpg

Oh, I have 3 shelves, but I can get them all on 1

Depends on the figure. If it's a fun figure, I play with it a while. If it's not so fun, it goes to the shelf fairly quickly. For example, I still haven't shelved ER Prime.

It’s so interesting how so many of us have a version of that “current favorites” shelf that’s accessible before they go into storage. We’re all so very similar in that regard.

It’s a great question. Over the past year I’ve bought well over 100 figures and as my purchases increased I found myself transforming them less and less, subsequently zapping the joy I get from collecting.

Recently I’ve made a point to grab random figures every other night or so and play with them. Two nights ago I transformed each “representative” from the 1984 Autobots (mostly Siege/Earthrise) into vehicle mode and it was honestly a blast.

We sure are. At least we all have TFs in common. In my opinion a solid appreciation of TFs is a mark of good character and discerning taste.
