Carnivac was one of the 1988 Pretender Beasts, who made a brief appearance in the US Marvel comics. He went on to have an expanded role and fantastic run in the Marvel UK series of the time (which I grew up on) as the honourable leader of the Decepticon’s Mayhem Attack Squad – and later defector and ally to the Autobot Survivors. He also made a strong showing in IDW’s Sins of the Wreckers and Requiem of the Wreckers as leader of a third faction called simply ‘Mayhem’. I’ve been hankering for a CHUG update for years, and there was a rumour he might show up in Titans Return as a redeco of Weirdwolf, but alas it never happened – so I’ve finally made my own. I started with Deluxe Cyberverse Thunderhowl. I dyed all his teal parts with a red RIT dye, hoping for purple but ending up with something closer to red wine. I cut off the original Thunderhowl face and glued on a Shapeways face from Steam Shield’s store. I painted the face, as well as parts of the wolf head, hip armour, claws and sword blade. Then I drilled a 5mm hole in his shield to allow a CW gun to mount. This Carnivac might not have the Pretender shell, but he has the IDW colour scheme and face sculpt, plus the G1 cannon and spikes. The Knight-motif inherited from Thunderhowl fits his Marvel UK characterisation as an honourable warrior. Honestly, the Thunderhowl mould is an odd one – the plastic feels a little off and the sculpt a little basic, but the Transformation is impressively different. I had to tighten a few joints, but he’s generally quite articulated – and I’m happy to add him to the collection. I initially didn’t put this up because it’s a comparatively dull image, but now I find that quit funny: here’s Carnivac doing a walk-and-talk with Prowl:
Don't know what you did, but the "wolf" mode now looks more like a pissed-off raccoon... and I like it. Might just steal that idea.
