Damn do I wish it had that giant arm cannon. The wings combining into guns is really cool, but not as incredible as that is. Really feels like it's incomplete as is. Only knock against an otherwise amazing figure.

It's the same gun, just stylized differently between the various artworks.

I know. But it doesn't look as cool, in a line all about flash and style.

They were MIA for a long time. I thought they might be out of the game, then they dropped bayformers Grimlock. Gcreation recently reissued their IDW OP, Prowl, and repaints of each (Nemesis Prime, Smokescreen). Perhaps, this is their way of showing us they are not done with IDW projects. The reissues and repaints/remolds could be a way to test the market. If they sell well, they can put the profits towards towards finishing Ronin (Drift) and Typotron (Megatron). Being 4 years later, I am sure they have to update the designs.

Since we are on the subject of G-Creation, here is Rebel next to K3 OP. Also, next to GT-03 OP EX.

Depends on your opinion on canon, but there was a backstory for him. He and Victory Leo went in disguise as Decepticons during the Robot Masters storyline.

Good thing I waited for the Shattered Glass OP. Quite sick of OP's original colors.

I'm hoping they do a Nemesis version and perhaps a Magnus, but then again I don't know if we need a Magnus without the armor. Its an easy repaint I guess.

That shattered glass is so damn nice. I missed out in optimus, but think I’ll grab this to go with Megatron. I sold tarn, drift and star saber, But don’t think I’ll rebuy them. Question is... is it worth the extra money for the exclusive axe. My body says yes. My wallet says stick to hasbro.

It’s totally worth it. US MSRP for this figure is $469; it’s about $6 more to order from D4 and get the axe (although, you have to front the whole cost).

After displaying them a while, I didn’t love Drift. Loved Tarn, and had PO’d Star Saber (but forgotten I did). So sold drift, then Tarn was lonely and out of place with the rest of my collection, so I sold him too. OP hadn’t been announced yet and then Star Saber came in and I was surprised lol. Kept him a while but ran into the same problem... he was a loner and I didn’t want to rebuy the others. Also I don’t actually know the IDW books or wherever this line comes from, so I have no attachment to them beyond just liking the designs and gokins in general. I generally go in for more grendizer/mazinger shogun types than gundam style bots.

Anyway, I regretted skipping Optimus but was comfortable with it until I saw megatron. with an OP and Megatron I could justify it again, but didn’t want to overpay for Optimus. The shattered glass release pushed me back over the edge, and figure if I have megs, SG OP and the starscream, that gives me a displayable and cohesive set. Maybe I’ll get the new Tarn rerelease because that is just such a fantastic damn bot.

i can get a discount from a shop (private deal thing, nothing I can pass along) which would put the regular release at about $380 shipped. So it’s closer to $100 difference for me sadly. Still probably worth it, but I hate paying in full up front.

Makes sense. I regret missing out on Optimus too, and idk if I wanna pay aftermarket prices only to get one with loose hips (hopefully they fix that on the SG version and other subsequent characters, and hopefully it’s a nonissue with bomber Megatron). So I might suck it up and buy the SG one so I have some version of 3K Optimus. The only other SG Prime I have is the Generation Selects one on preorder, every other one is the standard red/blue; so it might benefit my collection to have a different iteration of him lol.

I’m also really regretting not getting the D4 version of Megatron for the screaming face, but I didn’t have a steady income at the time to pay upfront for it on D4. I doubt anyone’s gonna sell the face on eBay. Sigh

General question, but would it be safe to say this would show up at Hobbylobby eventually? I've seen them carry IDW Megs and Thundercracker.

the screaming face is awesome, but that one I really can’t justify the price difference for me so I went with the regular release.

Wait, optimus had loose hips? That makes it even scarier for me to open mine whenever I move this year. It'd be a shame for me to buy the D4 exclusive version last year, only to open it this year to find that it has defects

Not loose so much as smooth and easy to move compared to the others. The others are extremely tight and need some force to move. Optimus's are not loose but move silky smooth like butter. The way Prime's move is honestly a lot better than the others in my opinion.

It didn’t plague all copies, it varied from what I heard online and such. I’m sure yours will be fine, like PoweredConvoy mentioned. Plus I never owned it so I can’t attest too well.

That’s fair and good to hear. Although I’m still unsure if I wanna spend aftermarket prices on the normal OP colors lol. Unless it’s in stock in places I haven’t noticed before

It wasn't universal, my copy hasn't had any issues with its hips. I've seen some go on Ebay for just a bit under retail recently so it's possible, but it's definitely trending upwards.
