As pointed out after my post, 2nd party is the consumer, 3rd party is 3rd party regardless of being licensed or not. Think about video games, there are 1st party games (nintendo with Mario, Microsoft with Halo etc) and 3rd party games (Batman Arkham for example) but there are no 2nd party games.

I know people are probably sick of talking about the maw, and forgive me if this image has already been posted, but this Hasbro sketch color scheme matches what is in the instruction booklet for the maw (that someone else posted previously).



So at this point I believe there are three different versions of the maw:

1. All orange (shown on the prototype as seen on the ordering page, toy fair, and the promo video)
2. Orange with inner blue maw (shown on this Hasbro sketch and the instruction booklet)
3. Orange teeth with inner blue maw and blue gears and blue outer ring (final product)

This of course does not include the unpainted prototypes and the prototypes with the wacky test colors.

I think version 1 and 2 are terrific. Version 3 less so, although the more I see it the less I'm bothered by it.

Honestly, I think version 3 looks best because it draws attention to the swirl. If it always looked this way all the way back to the original movie, I'd say people would complain if it was all orange because it loses detailing.

To confuse things even more: The third party companies are not actually third party. That is a fan term that has now become fact. But it isn't. They should just be called Unlicensed Products or something else entirely. And KOs are just KOs. But somehow the fans started calling them 4th party. And now the stores are even calling them that. It's pretty messed up.

 

Experiment #2: Is the slider thing that normally houses the backpack removable, or is Unicron stuck with a tiny bit of cape engineering

I think the 1st and 2nd party are Hasbro and the consumer. The term "3rd party" was used either for other licensees or producers of unlicensed add on kits designed for Habsro products sold to the same consumers. The use of "third party" for add on kit makers was then extended in common fan parlance to those same makers when they started just making whole complete figures. I don't think makers of such stand alone figures that we now call "3rd party" would even be technically a third party because their product is not related in any way to the Hasbro/consumer relationship--or at least not supposed to be (even though we all know what they're going for).

Licensed, unlicensed, KO, 3rd party, whatever, doesn't matter - it's all just a bunch of toy robots on my shelf that only I give a shit about. They are all equally real and have value. In many (if not most) instances the "fake" ones are worth just as much or more than the "real" ones, when it comes down to brass tacks it doesn't matter much more than that.

TL;DR: pissing matches about what is and isn't "real" and the labels therein don't matter at all.

I'm sorry if it's been asked already but there's a lot of pages to sift thru and I'm at work. But after you removed the kibble can you put the kibble together to make a separate planet mode? Also, I'm super stoked for this figure. I backed this and bought cell and I have to say I stick by my earlier statement of I prefer Haslab's to Cell. So far anyway
