Hasbro hasn't shipped any of these out themselves. All the ones currently out now are coming out of Asia.

So, the scans of the instructions may tell the tale of intent:
Transformers War for Cybertron- HasLab Unicron Instruction Manual (18)__scaled_800.jpg
The picture shows a slate colored inner surface. But I am pretty sure that is one solid piece. It seems likely they had to make a choice.

They could paint orange or blue or not at all. And, likely the piece wasn't alone in the mold and everything else on the mold was blue.

But they created masking pieces to spray. They could easily have done that. Assuming painting is suitable, of course, for wear and tear implications.

You say that, but maybe that doesn't account for tolerances and paint wear.

Just guessing, they made the choice to cast in blue, tried painting the other surfaces in orange. Found that the mechanisms either became hard to move or created wear marks in the orange paint.

I can tell you that my plan, should I paint anything, is to paint only the outer surface, what is visible with the teeth closed orange. That it something that will help without creating wear points. It's true Hasbro could have made a masking to do the same but there's one reason perhaps that they didn't that I can think of. Time.

Creating those tools would have taken time they may not have had between a lapse on production due to Covid shut downs and a scheduled February ship out.

A second would be money. To rush those tools getting made would cost money the project didn't have to spend.

That's what I meant with the last sentence.

Seems odd though, that if they wanted that small aesthetic change to the original deco, and found it didn't work, that they would then go a step further and change the whole piece and in turn dramatically change the deco.

I'd have thought such an outcome would lead to a decision of "oh well, that idea can't work, we will have to leave it yellow like we showed off to backers", not "damn, I really want the blue centre that nobody knows about, let's change the whole thing despite it being part of the focal point of the figure and that's been part of the marketing campaign throughout".

Yeah, that is what I suspect in my last (?) post - it was a mold constraint, just like earthrise Optimus’ (grey hands).

Eventually Hasbro just opt to paint them blue.

Mostly not. There are a few segments that got molded in the blue-grey instead, so those got painted over in silver to sort of match the rest of the hand.

Well, if anyone despises the paint job enough to want to sell it at cost, I would be interested (though understandable if not since flipper prices are surely tempting.)

The one thing that is true for everything is that no matter how much you pay, no matter the brand, no matter where it’s made, QC issues or “cut corners” will always exist. Transformers are an especially large offender of this, and even the giant rectum planet himself here can’t escape from that. IMO I still believe his transformation, from what I’ve seen, cut a lot of corners as well, but that one is subjective. I would have liked a happy medium between this and Zetacron

I thought the numbers from Asia were included in the final total? Who claimed that they weren't? All orders of this guy ultimately had to go through Haslab.

All the Australian orders taken by EB Games and Zing (two divisions of the same company) were compiled by Hasbro Australia and submitted toward the end of the funding period. Australia's orders contributed to the final count.

I figured the case would be the same for Takara Tomy representing Japan, for Kapow Toys representing the United Kingdom and for all the large retailers placing bulk orders.

I have yet to see anything to suggest that any orders were added once the funding window closed.

Exactly, everything was ultimately funneled through Hasbro USA and added to the Haslab numbers. That's why there was such drastic spikes in the numbers at the very end of the campaign and why none of the ordering extended beyond the Haslab campaign.

Considering it won't be shipping for another month at least for most of us, of course it's unfulfilled.

The yellow color of the center is slightly wrong too. I remember it being blue.
