I'd say one of the biggest things about Tillman's performance in Cyberverse is that he never has to raise his voice, therefore he doesn't break his imitation of Cullen.
In Siege, he can't hold it when he has to get angry.

Peter Cullen’s Optimus prime voice is absolutely Iconic, and absolutely perfect in everything that he’s done imo (yes even in prime and the movies).

Garry chalk and Neil Kaplan are great voices for Optimus but I always felt that their voices would work much better for ultra magnus or even rodimus prime, but Garry chalk as Optimus primal is DEE0605A-BD6B-4C61-9AFF-FCB1CBE21A46.jpeg

David Kaye’s voice is the perfect Orion pax voice. He is absolutely perfect as a young version of Optimus.

Jon Bailey is good. I’m in the minority that actually likes his voice for Optimus but he does better impressions for other characters.

jake foushee is actually quite good as a peter Cullen impressionist imo. He’s pretty good in cyberverse and in most of siege, but my problem with him is that he can’t really put a lot of emotion without sounding like Batman.

He was in combiner wars and you can even hear him as Optimus in some of the bumblebee trailers

    It’s a miracle!

Peter Cullen: obviously fantastic, perfect no one came close except-

Gary Chalk: He's the only one that ever felt like he could match Peter Cullen. His Optimus sounds like a younger version of Optimus Prime one who just became leader of the Autobots.

Neil Kaplan: Underated performance, the only Person outside of the first two that sounded like Optimus. He's not Peter Cullen, he's another Iteration, perhaps a young one of Optimus Prime, that has'nt become the leader of the Autobots yet.

David Kaye's: More of an Orion Pax then an Optimus, but for that it worked great.

Jon Bailey: Honestly, he's pretty bad. He sounds like those people who think they can do a convincing Optimus Prime, but will always just sound like an impression of Peter Cullen.

Jake Tillman: Same as Jon Bailey, but atleast he's being a bit more unique than him, (for better (Cyberverse) and for WORSE (TeLl mE yOu FoRGivE mE!!!).

Yeah the first 4 are good cuz they never try to be Peter Cullen, they're voicing Optimus Prime

    Peter Cullen: Perfection
Neil Kaplan: He’s alright but nothing special IMO
Garry Chalk: Feels like more of a peer than a parent, which is a refreshing change
David Kaye: a good take on young Optimus
Jon Bailey: Fine for a spoof, not for something serious
Jake Tillman: Haven’t seen cyber verse, WFC gives a bad impression

Jake Tillman is way better in Cyberverse than in WFC, trust me.

    Ebay:
    My ranking:
    1) Peter Cullen (G1) - More of a team dad than a military leader, which is perfectly in keeping with the intent of the character. Compassionate, authoritative but still one of the guys.
    2) Garry Chalk (BW) - excellent emotional range, captures the idea of a born leader on his first command excellently.
    3) David Kaye (Ani) - Similar strengths as Chalk's Primal, but with a bit more uncertainty blended in.
    4) Neil Kaplan (RiD) - Emulated Cullen, but a touch naïve. You get the feeling that he doesn't quite feel up to the task, but is putting up a front while doing his best to rise to the occasion.
    5) Garry Chalk (UT) - Hampered by terrible dub scripts in Armada & Energon, but still managed to bring energy and character to the role. More of a military leader than G1, but still retains some of the paternal feel.
    6) Jon Bailey - Serviceable but doesn't really make the role his own.
    7) Jake Tillman (Cyberverse) - Puts in a decent performance but not really memorable
    8) Peter Cullen (modern) - Lacks the character his G1 portrayal, whether its loss of vocal range due to age, or poor direction. Basically limited to "epic stoic ultimate leader", and it's actually painful to listen to. I honestly think retiring Peter from the role is for the best, G1 nostalgia be damned.
    9) Jake Tillman (WFC) - No redeeming value whatsoever.

    • Peter Cullen - THE definitive Optimus Prime
    • Neil Kaplan - did a very good Optimus, I have no complaints
    • Garry Chalk - I would have no problem with him taking over for Cullen as the go-to Optimus Prime
    • David Kaye - was perfect as Optimus in Animated, might've been a good fit for Cyberverse
    • Jon Bailey - I don't really recall liking or not liking his Optimus
    • Jacob Tillman Foushee - does a nice job in the non-speaking roles

I disagree. I found him just as lifeless and unlikable in cyberverse.

In that scene he says "hold on, old friend" in a very monotone voice like he does everything else. I dont feel any emotion behind it.

Peter Cullen: His performance in G1 is well-renowned in the fandom, and for good reason, though I will concur that Hasbro seems to have forgotten a lot of what made his performance so memorable. It's remarkable to watch G1's first two seasons and see just how...normal he is. He's the team dad and a respected leader, obviously, but he's not the Stoic Hero of the Universe that he would become later. I also like his performance in the 1986 movie, which was one of the few tonally appropriate things about that movie (I love the movie, but it has mood whiplash problems to the nth degree), even if it eventually led to a lot of the problems that seem to be endemic to the modern Optimus Prime. I also find him to be enjoyable in the WFC/FOC video games and, surprisingly enough given my general dislike for them, the live-action movies. He emotes! His lines may be a tad uncharacteristic of Optimus at times ("Give me your face!"), but he does emote and generally gives a good performance. His performances in Prime and RID 2015 are rather more underwhelming, although given his performances in the movies, I suspect that that may be linked in part to vocal direction for those shows. I still like to listen to his voice in those shows, but he has one of those voices that I would probably enjoy listening to read the phone book. I just find his voice relaxing for some reason.

Neil Kaplan: I used to think his performance in RID 2001 was too much of a Peter Cullen impression. Having sat through Siege and Earthrise, I would now like to apologize to him for thinking that. While he's obviously taking cues from Cullen, he does a good job at making the role his own (especially since, as the first Optimus Prime voice actor after Cullen, he was facing an obvious uphill battle). It's just too bad that he was stuck playing an Optimus who wasn't particularly interesting.

Garry Chalk: He does a great job as Optimus Primal, but that's not really the focus of this thread. From what I remember, he did a pretty good job as Prime in the Unicron Trilogy. From what I remember of his performance, he felt more like a military commander than Primal or G1 Prime did. While he obviously cared about his men, he definitely didn't feel quite as much like a pal to them. I generally enjoyed him, although the "lost in translation" factor that was so prominent in the dubs (especially Energon) hampered his performance.

David Kaye: Probably the best "Orion Pax/Young Optimus Prime" voice out there. He gives an emotional, passionate performance and does a great job.

Jon Bailey: This one's weird, because I haven't actually watched much of the Prime Wars Trilogy (and don't really want to). From what I've seen, he's a decent impersonator, but the fact that he hasn't been in a good show yet and was dubbed over by Cullen for the Bumblebee movie makes it hard to make an overall judgement call.

Jacob Tillman Foushee: I thought he did a decent enough job in Cyberverse, where his vocal direction wasn't just "Do Peter Cullen". In Siege and Earthrise, he struggles to maintain the Peter Cullen impression, especially when angry. As other people have noted, when he has to shout or get angry, he starts to sound a bit like Batman. It also doesn't help him that all...his dialogue....is delivered....like this, something that I'm pretty sure we can lay at the feet of the vocal directors. I honestly feel bad for him. He's only four years older than I am, and Hasbro apparently wants him to imitate the vocal performance of a voice acting legend-with decades of experience- who's about to turn 80 (Cullen's as old as my grandparents)! Just let him do his own take on the character!
