He's OK but the white plastic used for the wing connectors and trex armlets feel brittle also no front teeth in Dino mode. Didn't bother taking that waste of plastic Wheelie out of the box. Grimmy needs his sword. I hope the whole Dino crew gets released especially my fave Snarl who wasn't in key scenes in 86 like that punch up with devastator.

Not entirely pointless. His slingshot is a separate accessory, that can be held by core class figures, other than Vertibreak.

Thanks for taking the plunge to show everyone.

I wonder how it would look if you stripped the gold paint off the clear outer piece, and painted the inner neck piece completely gold...

The neck pieces are made of the same way too dark smokey plastic since on the same sprue. So, with the paint removed, it still doesn't look right since it's too dark. Still significantly more dark compared to G1 plastic. MP was lighter than G1 toy (the MP dino neck plastic is even lighter than the MP chest plastic).

Yeah, I think I agree that it is a bit too dark. I wonder how it would look if you stripped the paint and then painted the neck piece gold from the inside. The darkness may still dilute it but the gold would be closer up to sight - I wonder how similar it would look to the POTP version in that case.

Gold still gets drowned out. Even lighter smoke would still mute it quite a bit. The MP dino neck pieces have a hint of smoke to it, which is why the inner gold chrome shows through so well.

POTP Dinobots are more of an apples to oranges comparison. They use clear plastic with very different interior and exterior molding to simulate the appearance of 2 layers. The inner layer gets the metallic paint while the outer layer is left clear. The gold doesn't look that shiny since they used a rather crappy, muted gold paint.

First impression, I like him. The hand gaps are both lazy in design and unforgivable imo. Not a deal breaker, but they just really hurt this otherwise solid mold. It would have been just as easy for the to slide out from the inside.

Wheelie is cheap and lazy also.

Honestly, wish Grimlock was a commander class figure. Get a fully articulated Wheelie, sword for Grammy, and fix the forearms plus opening hands.

But he's great for a toy to play with, while my FT and MP fulfill display duties. Glad I didn't go after the Potp version.

IMG_20210204_174402949.jpg I have been messing with this guy and I love it. I'm glad they did the gold instead of the clear and the teeth issue everyone has complained about doesn't bother me either. I also love wheelie and I'm glad they included him and a large gun which is awesome too. I really have no complaints.

Can someone with Titans Return Wheelie take a pic with this Wheelie for size comparison?

Nice. I have the Takara version too. Worth every penny. I’m planning on putting it on SS86 Grimlock instead. Will he look too big?

Don't have a photo handy, but standing straight-legged in robot mode, both are near-identical height at the head (but not necessarily antennae or shoulder pylons)

Edit: hmmmm, the board ate part of my post (it's like it posted from where I'd written 5 minutes ago) will have to clean up....

WOW! a leader that actually feels worth the price in Generations for the first time since Titan's Reaturn! This guy is pretty awesome.

    The Good.
    • The heft. This guy actually feels like a Leader-Class figure.
    • The sculpt: just the right amount of sculpted detail, not overly greebled like Siege, but not overly smooth/cartoony like K.Cyclonus – really hope they keep the other Dinos this level of detail and don't dumb them down
    • Neither grey plastic has that white, cheap, milky quality. The gunmetal plastic is really nice.
    • Transformation. Could have a LITTLE more going on, but is still satisfying.
    • The Proportions. Nice and beefy! Legs seem like they stick out more then necessary in alt mode and the head feels like it could be ever-so-slightly smaller, but he looks pretty dang great.
    • That gold paint. So nice looking and so much better then the pale yellow he looks when revealed. Sure I wish it was on the inside and he had a lighter shade of clear, but it looks nice and premium and picks up the light great.
    • Alt-mode head just oozes personality.
    • The size!!! again, it's like a real leader from the good-ol days. You want to see something hysterical, stand Shockwave (especially without his nonsense add-ons) next to him. both of these cost $50.

    The Bad.
    • No joint at the alt mode wrist. Would give him a lot more character.
    • The dumbed-down shin paint. Those Cartoon-style blobbed on rectangles look REALLY lame on a mold with this much sculpted detail. The green seems like a total waste since it's not used anywhere else(??).
    • The hollow feet - continues a disturbing trend in the days of ever-hollowing-out more material where the lower legs are significantly lighter then the torso, which makes him feel like he's going to topple over (this was particularly prevalent on the Earthrise Datsun Bros). Fortunately Grimlock's ratio isn't off by that much, and his GIANT shoes give him a fairly solid understanding. (zing!)
    • QC. the QC on mine is actually pretty decent, but as with most post "move production to vietnam "-era Transformers (I don't know if that's the reason per-se, but the timing lined up with when overall QC took a massive nosedive), there still a lot of panels that don't solidly lock together - you basically can't move the alt mode arms at the shoulder without the chest popping apart and one of the shins barely holds together closed in bot mode. One a TF this big, it sure seems like all of this seems like it could be solved with larger, "hookier" tabs and pegs.
    • The red. Wish it was a tad darker, especially on his underpants. The red paint is better then the red plastic, but would still prefer maybe 1-2 shades darker.

    The Ugly.
    • The gaps in alt mode below his robot mode calves and feet and where the "wings" close next to the triangular bits they hinge on. Makes him feel unfinished, and seem like they all could have been cleaned up with minimal effort. Makes the alt-mode
    • The last section of the tail. Man, that is hella derpy. it also seems really under-detailed in the sculpting compared to the entire rest of the figure. Related:
    • The pylons the tail is attached to. Those just seem destined to break, I can't comprehend why they made them so thin and why on earth are they red??
    • No sword. Come on, man – that's just C-H-E-A-P. And I don't care that he didn't use it in the movie. it's one of his defining characteristics as a character in almost every single other appearance.
    • The empty robot mode elbows. I really hate when they make elbows hinge from the inside but have no material in the back to make the upper and lower arm feel "connected". Looks super awkward in any pose where you can see the weird empty place where an elbow should be.
    • Missing front teeth. This actually doesn't bug me as much as I thought it would, it's not particularly noticeable from most angles, but it's such a headscratch why they would possibly do that.
    • The alt-mode weapon storage. I have to believe they could have come up with some cooler and less lame-looking then strapping his gun across his lower back, sticking out goofily from each side. it looks pretty cool tuned upside down and set in the hollow of his back, like a back-mounted mortar cannon: a simple peg at the past, or utilize the existing hole for the alt mode head to peg into, could have made that look way better.
    • That Wheelie. What. the. crap. glad I have the Legends one. but man, non-transforming, super awkward static pose that's really only good for one thing?? Why? Should have done Wheelie and the Whitwickys as a deluxe-class 3-pack like the Motorcycle sisters or something and included the sword instead.

    Rating:
overall, I give this guy a B+. he's really close to an A-, and is so close to the Grimlock I've been wanting since 1985, he's just got enough niggles and nonsense (alt mode gaps! no wrist-hollow-covers!!! NO SWORD!!!), especially for $50, to knock him down a grade. Overall though, the best quality I've seen in a mainline figure since Earthrise Prime

God dam Grimlock is freaking good. So happy i sold off the masterpiece and got this now. Its so solid and well designed. And darn it i love Wheelie! I know by all rights i should hate him for missing elbows and knees but hes just so full of personality! And for being an accessory for Grimmy, its pretty cool that hes so intricate already. He also looks great fighting Megatron.

if there was one thing i wish they could have done, its ankle tilts in the dino mode. I dont know how they could have done it with the way the hands flip out.

Does anyone else have the issue in dino mode where the right knee does not have a ratchet in it?

They’re red because that’s the colour of the more durable plastic type used, specifically so they won’t break.
