First thoughts when I unpacked Grapple was: Boy, is this guy orange! But as limited as his paintwork was, the astonishing amount of detail this mold has is incredible, making Grapple the perfect canvas for a repaint. Listing up all the tiny changes I made to him would take a while, it's easily more than a hundred alltogether, and I could have done even more. But for now I am happy with the result and he earned his place on my shelf next to Hoist.
You ever wonder if Hasbro just used all of its paint budget on siege? Great work. I like the addition of silver highlights on the claw. Never would have thought of that.
Actually that is a pretty good explanation! I am sure the battle damage wasn't cheap and difficult to implement.
I’m just getting into painting and I love your work. Did you use acrylic or enamel on Grapple? Is this just brushwork or spray? I love the silver on the vents near the rear of the alt mode... it’s super clean. I’m going to read the tutorials section, but if you have any tips, I’d love to hear them. Thanks so much!
Thank you! I use enamel paint from Revell for small details or round shapes that would need too much time to tape around (for example all the small silver details on Grapple, as well as the black paintjobs). For bigger surfaces or when I need a flat finish I use spraypaint (his head, or the vents and bumper). The cars section in the hardware-stores have a crazy amount of variety in silver and metal spraypaint, and that stuff is scratch-resistant to a certain degree, so it's perfect if you want to transform the figure after painting I am glad to help anytime you have questions, and I am sure the other guys here will help you to improve as well. It's a nice community here, so welcome at Radicons Customs! I am excited to see your first repainted Transformers soon^^
Which is ironic, as the cr@pple damage paint was completely unwanted and probably lost them sales of some figures by collectors.
I liked it a lot, even considered applying battledamage myself to Transformers with cybertronian alt-modes.
