This is quite impressive I\'ve always liked seeing this kind of behind the scenes line work really helps show all the effort that goes into the designs.
Can\'t wait to get my hands on a copy this February

There’s good change and bad change.

    We don’t like bad change.

No one likes bad change. But how do people know it's bad before it's even come out?

If these were instances of 'artistic invention' then I'm sure more people would be willing to agree with it, but this is more like artistic degeneration or stagnation. Just because the franchise is called "Transformers" doesn't mean we're obligated to lap up every lazily made, shitty comic or piece of media they come out with. Putting a finer point on it, they literally aren't doing anything new or all that ambitious, the new IDW comics are some of the safest and least inspired stories since the terrible Netflix shows.

I do so love when people try to speak about the 'fandom' as a collective.

Firstly, see my post literally right above yours.

Secondly, the primary outrage that seemed to be coming out of this comic was that they're introducing new characters rather than repurposing old toy characters and whatnot. Without any consideration that maybe someone came up with the character of Nyx from scratch, and liked the idea of using this new character, rather than slotting in a pre-fabricated personality/design from someone else's desk.

Whether they overwhelmingly lean back on existing BW story beats and tropes is another issue, which is yet to be seen. Personally I would like a story as they initially promoted it - a wholly new take on the concept. But I think it's likely that they'll throw in some fanservice as is the norm these days.

It seems you've missed the ongoing discussion in the thread specifically catered towards the upcoming IDW Beast Wars comics and are commenting on something that's already been heavily discussed.

The last thing I read in the catered thread was a load of discussion about which G1 character equates to which BW character, which completely turned me off, and similar discussion to above about whether to revisit or reimagine the story. If there's something I've missed, feel free to fill me in (this isn't sarcasm, I realise it reads that way haha).

Pffft, It's been a bit since I looked in there but I see what you mean.

Earlier in the thread there was quite a bit of talk about Nyx as well as the more recently revealed Skold, hell even Josh himself, the artist for the comic, offered his own input for why she was designed so similarly to Snapper. Admittedly at first I was kind of skeptical about Skold but after hearing the input from the artist himself I find myself liking her a lot more.

I do remember people (including myself) wondering if Nyx was a minor alteration of Bat Primal / Onyx Primal but it seems they really just share a beast mode and that's where the similarities mostly end.

I apologize if my first response to you was a bit presumptuous. Despite how I can sometimes come off I didn't mean anything negative towards you. :lol

That's okay, I understand what you mean. There are plenty of people in this community who are ready for something new, who I didn't properly credit in my original post. Working in the creative industry, it frustrates me to see people disliking someone's creation on the grounds that it isn't repurposed material from before. Hence my (perhaps blunt) original post.

I think a combination of modern nostalgia pop culture, the Transformers franchise's growing tendency to call back to older iterations, and the focus around resources like TFWiki and the AllSpark Almanacs just means that a lot of fans find themselves leaning back on old stories, characters and details in new works. Heck, even I'm suspect to this - I admit that one of my primary interests in the new comic is to spend time with some of the old characters again, and that my interest wouldn't be as strong if this comic starred a completely new cast. Fingers crossed the story takes us in new directions though, with memorable new faces.
