Yes..............................................................................................................................................................
Im good with the original face. Robots having teeth is something that needs to stay forgotten in time. Skybyte was bad enough. Dont need Megatron looking like a damn ninja turtle...
I'm fine either way but not repurchasing for a face. I'll just save up and get the MP figure to do that.
I visited 2 shops, showed them the picture of megs and asked if I could check their inventory. The clerks, based on the look on their faces, must've thought I was some kinda moron. I left my name and number in case 1 turned up. They probably don't give a fuck but who knows lightning might strike.
They didn't mention anything about the packaging so we wouldn't know that. Or at least I didn't know that. And someone asked if there was any other differences and I never saw a reply. Plus I remember many variants you can only get at stores. Can't think of any Transformers off the top of my head, but definitely action figures. Gamestop was one of them. And I also said "and/or" meant for a different release altogether. Obviously meant for the mold though
The need to add the mutant heads to the beasts. Accessory, so people who don't like it can leave it off.
Package variants aren't store specific, though. And we had them before. Also, historically, any time Hasbro officially announced a variant, that variant never came to be (see: Alternators Smokescreen with #7 driver number, see: Alternators yellow Tracks, see: Combiner Wars Onslaught color variant). All the variants we've seen over the years were never officially acknowledged. But none of them were "store specific". However, there is a distinction between "variants" and "redecos" or "retools" that might seem semantic for a layperson, but is actually pretty significant: See, for example, back during Robots in Disguise (the 2015-onwards toyline), Toys"R"Us had what appears to be a "variant" of the Warrior Class Megatronus figure with a different head than the general retail version. However, as you can see, the packaging is different (the TRU version was part of the "Clash of the Transformers" subline imprint that had a slightly different packaging design), and so were the Hasbro product code and assortment numbers (general retail Megatronus was B4687 and part of the Warrior Class assortment B0070, TRU Megatronus was B4636 and part of the "Clash of the Transformers" Warrior Class assortment B3644) and the UPC barcodes (general retail Megatronus was 630509363551, TRU Megatronus was 630509358458). Also, general retail Megatronus shipped in, well, a regular general retail Warrior Class shipping case along with other general retail Warrior Class figures, while TRU Megatronus shipped in a "Clash of the Transformers" Warrior Class shipping case. So while from a layman's perspective, one is merely a "variant" of the other with a different head, they've actually been treated as completely separate products in terms of distribution, regardless of how similar the two versions may look. Also, Hasbro officially acknowledged the existence of both versions (though not at the same time, since they were announced independently of each other). And that's how it has always been with these types of "looks like a variant, but is actually a separate product in terms of distribution" for Transformers. So unless this so far one-of-a-kind Kingdom Megatron with a different head has a different Hasbro product code number and barcode than the regular version, it's highly unlikely to be deliberately "store-specific", because how the hell would that even work in terms of distribution?
Yeah that all sounds right. I can follow all that since I'm probably in your age group & have been loving them since 1985 (it didn't air in my state til January 1985 but I got issue #1 in December 1984 I do believe according to the date on book, 'still'). But definitely as I remember exclusives, they at least have a TRU sticker on them for example, or different packaging, like you mentioned. I do remember that Megatron version from on the boards! Never saw it though, guess that makes sense since I have no TRU. They are only just now talking about getting a Target here lol! But also I did mention I don't remember seeing Transformers like that but I wasn't sure.
I don't think I ever found a variant transformer before. But I'm going to keep my eyes open for this one
