If he does, it better be a vcr. A sound blaster could even be done with the old go video dual vcr I only know of it’s existence cuz my parents had one.
That would be sick as Soundblaster. Make me think of the old 90s TVs with the built in VCR slots though...
So are you going to mount the legs to the reel/gear inside the cassette? If you use the internal parts (reel/gears) of the cassette I would imagine you could connect them both and use them as a structure to build off of. Like the cassette tape is a shell that just fits over the whole thing. Maybe even use a sliding mechanism between them so you could expand/lengthen the whole figure for transformation. Just a thought.
What we recognize today as vhs was born in 1977. 2007 they were basically retired altogether. 2016 is when vcrs officially died (out of production completely).
Oh definitely, that's eventually-inevitable.....Been brainstorming that concept ever since I started Laserbeak a couple years ago, really had to think on that one for a while to figure-out what was practical.....ended-up with a base for it that you wouldn't quite expect..... Yeah, the initial-plan to do a VCR-Soundwave was to just find and butcher an old top-loader VCR, late-70s/early-80s, but after seeing how hard it is to find them without paying a fortune for it was just impractical.....so I found a better-solution......an early-90s tape-rewinder with a centered eject-button, and transparent pop-up deck. The legs will definitely have to take some pieces of the tape-reels with them during transformation so all that isn't hanging-around in cat-mode, wouldn't look right......And all-four legs will actually mount and pivot off the main-torso, not the reels themselves, with the design I have in-mind......Just not sure yet exactly how much of the reels will remain stationary once the legs come-out, but be assured I'll distribute all parts as evenly & practically as the circumstances will let me to get the best aesthetics in cat-mode as possible.....it's been a major-headache so-far just getting that front-leg to work and look-decent while packing working-hardware into a 3/8" space.....but the back-legs will be worse, for the allocation of the pivot-points that I have in-mind to get them to unfold in a similar-fashion as the G1-tape. After thinking on that one for a couple years now and looking at pricing & availability of old top-loaders, I was forced to come-up with a better-solution: Simply build around an early-90s tape-rewinder with a transparent pop-up deck with a centered eject-button, and I came-up with an RCA-model that fit the need perfectly. It's not expensive, a lot easier to find, and all I gotta do at this point is build around it instead of butchering an old VCR, this was the best, most-plausible-solution. I already bought 2 of these months ago to at least start looking at it & took one apart to fix it, but I've got my base for Soundwave here.....but unless somebody comes-forward with the money & balls to commission one, first-things-first, VHS-Ravage....
Finally made the cuts for Ravage's rear-leg & weapon-panel today on the final-torso shell & cleaned 'em up, here's a rough-look at what he's lookin like! Pleased with the proportions so far, now to connect the legs to the torso & build the rear-foot. Then, figure-out the pivot-point for the belly-panel that flips-up & forms the inverted weapons-panel in cat-mode. The panel cut-out that forms the chest & belly-indentation when flipped-up will actually contain his side-weapons, so no extra-kibble goes to waste on this guy. He will have 2 parallel missiles resembling his side-mounted G1-weapons pointing-forward at an angle, but will be separate from his legs compared to the G1-toy. The notch in the tape's center-field isn't cut for the weapons-link yet, so more to come on how all that will work once everything's mounted & working. ---
VHS-Ravage update: Decided to first connect the front-leg today before going with a rear-leg design, here's a look at the mounts before I rivet the connecting-link shortly, will update later once the link is in......Reason being, I need to finalize where the front shoulder will fall once the leg-assembly folds-out, that will determine where I have the rear-leg land in-place after. Here's an inside-look at the fold-out setup that will allow the front-leg to pivot-upwards so that his upper-body has more of a crouched-look when he's standing. Even the original-tape-design had a higher front-leg mount, which is what I'm going-for. ---
