In all honesty, what's the difference?

Maybe they did? All of those guards are Under-3s, and this is Beast Wars so "Stasis Lock" is now a thing.

    Honestly?

If I were IDW, I'd consider making Under 3 come back as Lion Prowl and let him form the head of Magnaboss. It'd be a perfect way to blend his lion theme with the fact his original toy turns in to a head.

"Why did you create two new characters instead of using these two obscure toy characters? Also, why did you use this obscure toy character instead of creating somebody new?"

On a more serious note: Death doesn't have to be permanent in a comic book. Hell, it wasn't even permanent on the original show. Primal, Blackarachnia, Tigatron, and Airazor all came back from the dead. Dinobot stayed dead but due to the cloning process eventually "came back" as Dinobot 2.

    Now this is a cover!

    1611348047-beast-wars-3-ri.jpg

The original 10, plus a new character for each side.

This one gives us (what I believe) is our first look at a 25th Anniversary logo:

Wait, didn't he get the name Lionhead in Japan? That sounds like a serviceable name.

Yeah I know but it just seemed like that was something they forgot to consider. Since when would gnashteeth be appropriate for any non animal transformer? In Beast Wars uprising he had the body of a legends class megatron toy, and tanks don’t have teeth and can’t gnash things with them. Maybe the writers saw how both are former bodies, so by drawing the connection with croc and pre earth, you get the implication that he’d just be an ordinary predacon if he didn’t change his name and by default his entire destiny. By default he’s gnashteeth, someone who’d ordinarily just pick a croc body and be done with it, but only the Megatron thing to do would be a Tyrannosaurus. I hope this explains my thinking but that’s how I interpreted it.

That would actually be a pretty neat idea!

You realize that those two things are different, right? Using a character in the story is different than killing them within 2 pages. They're two completely opposite roles.

Never thought I could see a Dinobot/Scorponok showdown.

I think they might actually make Scorponok an interesting character.

Didn't realize Skold and Nyx were cannon-fodder.

Because that's the only way this false equivalency would work. Not that, again, Under-3 really counts as a character, and Josh just said it's not actually him, that all those guard bots share the body-type, but if anything it'd be worse if we got two "original" characters and established ones are used as throwaways. Luckily for all the Under-3 fans that's not happening here.

Never thought Scorponok could look so fucking pissed from his mouth alone!

Hm. I wonder if this comic\'ll finally explain to the \"trukk not monke\" people that Optimus Primal and Optimus Prime are two separate characters.

His focus on time and how he just went and executed that guard gave me real "Consummate Professional" personality vibes from him instead of the extreme doormat bootlicker from the cartoon.

While not really overly sadistic Terrorsaur was still a jerkass. He liked to take his time to gloat when he could and that's kind of what I felt he was doing here.

Yeah, Terrorsaur was just in general a shitheel of the highest order. Him being an edgy punk is pretty in-line with that, just acted out in a more modern manner. (less Machiavellian, more "pay up or get cut")

Bruh, those covers...! Those are god-tier. Also you have no idea the unadulterated joy I feel seeing Tarantulas in a story again. My boy is back.

In terms of personality I always saw Terrosaur as the Braggart or Egomaniac of the group. He wants to be leader or "number one", he enjoys gloating, he takes all the credit/glory for a successful mission, he's a self-centered opportunist, he dislikes being "upstaged" by anyone, etc.

Now Tarantulas on the other hand would be the undisputed Sadist of the group.

I kinda like the name Galavar, but it also makes me think of the tv show Galavant.

Yes. Or Thrust, or Drag Strip, etc. or any character that falls under the Egomaniac/Braggart character archetype.
