The franchise was doing just fine before the movies, they saved nothing.

Bayverse did not save the franchise, and neither did Armada, as some people say. The only thing that saved the franchise was Beast Wars. No point in Transformers history was anywhere near as bleak as the pre-Beast Wars '90s. Both Bayverse (until AoE) and the UT were massively profitable, yes, but Bayverse was riding on the success of the enire UT, just as Armada was riding on the success of the Beast era - and I say that as a titanic fan of Armada.

It was a one-off drawing for a Twitter Arcee redesign challenge, I doubt there is.

Also, out of the other Arcee redesigns, this one was the most creative. I can't say that for the rest.

I gotta be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of this design. The wheels are the only thing leading me to guess she turns into a car of some sort, and I have absolutely no idea how she would transform. It's a nice piece of artwork, but I just wish it looked like she could actually transform.

Alex Milne's Arcee design from the Transformers vs Terminator comic is my current favourite redesign of G1 Arcee after IDW1.

Not that I disagree with you completely, but what’s your definition of “just fine”?

Actually before the movies Transformers media was limited to a handful of comics and almost a decade of imported anime dubs. The brand absolutely flourished after the movies came out and made the big bucks. Back in 2007 the franchise was in desperate need of a kick to the rear to get going again.

Thread Tax: I don’t think transformers would/should be an anime.

Looks like something out of Symphogear to me, which is not a bad thing, and I like how the G1 Arcee car antenna thing is ornamenting her head, but it has something I've actually gotten pretty tired of, glowing TRON lines. It just seems like a cheap way to try and make a design seem eyecatching and energetic but really does nothing. That and as you said, doesn't seem like it was designed with even a vague transformation scheme, which is a horrible way to design a Transformer IMO.

But I mean, points for style. I'd rather get this out of Flame Toys than Ban's Arcee because that design is just really bland and featureless and just looks comparatively boring to me.

The toylines of Armada and Cybertron were selling like crazy to the point they had to sell repaints of old lines to keep up with demand. And Hasbro was only planning on having the main shows be dub anime until Cybertron, then they were going to be doing their own shows again (Animated), which had started planning and designing in 2004. The movies just made even more money and shot them into the general pop culture spotlight. Think Marvel before the MCU but with the opposite financial situation.

And Transformers anime can work. It just needs to be well written and not rushed. It's just animated shows but made in Japan.

Just goes to show how impractical the transformations in the G1 cartoon were. Damn you, Floro Dery.

It can work, and it would if you put someone competent behind the wheel, but Hasbro's getting cheap and this franchise is starting to look more and more like Sonic. Honestly considering abandoning ship and heading to Star Wars full time.

EDIT: Unless, of course, Hasbro gives me what I want and hands the wheel over to Studio TRIGGER. Look what happened with Gridman.

    Which is?

I haven't seen any new toys in any local stores... including the type that would be affordable and something that I'd get?

You're talking about toys here, and offer a reference to something that doesn't appear to have any?

Guess I'll just make due with the ones I have from the 90s.

Show me updated versions of these guys that are under the 100$ mark and we'll talk.

We can agree to disagree, but the point I'm making is that Gridman was absolutely dead in the water before TRIGGER picked it up, inciting new interest in it and making the new Gridman something that could stand on its own. I don't mean toy-wise, toy-wise Gridman did decently but I mean fiction-wise.

    Disagree about what?

I was asking about your comment as people have been talking about how the movies and series in parallel to the toylines, impacted the franchise.

If you feel strongly about Gridman, it's fine, but without a toyline, it's not the same thing at all. The TFs movies made a bucketload of money on their own, but the TV shows don't, as they are more like 30 minutes commercials to sell the toys.

So they could do whatever TV series from any source, but without a toyline, it's money that Hasbro would be flushing down the drain, something that they'd never do.

I love everything about this design overall. I'm not normally an Acree fan cause of her design the majority of the time, but this is nice. Can easily see she's a TF, and not just a weird shellformer. I personally wish more femme designs followed like this more often.

Ok... Unpopular opinion (Or atleast I know it will be here):

Transformers are overpriced and suck compared to Lego.

I mean, the design of the transformation and modeling the parts + making the molds and the production isn´t cheap... But then you go and reuse the transformation scheme in 15 other characters, make 3 slight variations to the mold, sell each variation in 5 different color schemes as new characters... It´s a gold mine for Hasbro. (For example the Siege Megatron, with slight retool into ER Megs and tons of repaints, Netflix, G. Selects,...)

Maybe they could drop the price if they made enough of them and exported them equally to all countries (Where they could make a profit, Im not saying to export $30 figures to Syria) and not make 80% of the line exclusive to some US only store.

Another thing that I really hate about Transformers compared to Lego is - you break the part and your expensive toy is ruined. With Lego, you just go to Bricklink and buy the part you broke for a few cents.

Also the customer service on Hasbro´s part is non existent, compared to Lego where they sent you the parts missing from your set (If it even ever happens, happened to me only once this year and I bought well over 100 sets) for free.

However! This rant pretty much applies for Europe, or atleast my country, where Deluxes cost $25 USD when new and Voyagers are $40. I never saw Leader class in store. Oh and legends can go from anywhere from as low as $10 when on clearence and $18 new.
Also the average pay here is around $1K USD per month, so they seem more expensive for us compared to countries where you can earn $3k or so.

And all this said, I don´t hate Transformers, I wouldn´t be here if I did, lol.

(Wooohooo, I can finally post in Junkion exchange! My 10th post! I hope ;_; )
