I have to ask: What exactly is the problem with the smoky plastic?

Too dark. Makes deco look worse. Also affected dino neck pieces in which the wrong side got painted to apparently cover up the dark plastic choice.

there isn’t really anything “wrong” with it or preferring the look of the window being on the figure, but this is suppose to represent the 86 movie version of the character. The chest window is more in line with the stylistic liberties taken for the old masterpiece toy.

It is pretty apparent that this guy was created with the potential of future reuse in mind, as a result he has some carry overs that fit with other version of the character that really don’t suit an 86 movie Grimlock in particular.

don't worry, you'll probably see 3rd party upgrades for the chestpiece popping up soon.

As associated with his sword as Grimlock is in the toylines and alternate continuities, he never actually used it the cartoon. There was one episode where he wielded a sword, but it wasn't his trademark blade.

Great bot all around! ... Reminds me of a simplified Masterpiece version :)

Those tabs on the back on the elbows in bot mode & the ones for the knee in alt mode are just screaming to break off. ... They do lock in solidly, but I'm hoping after a few transformations back and forth nothing there starts to warp or snap off.

Wheelie's an alright choice, like some others here though I would've preferred his sword as an addition.

And after reading a couple of reviews here I cant stop seeing that toothless front gap of his teeth, lol. ... I get that it's most likely for a flame effect of sorts but damn is it ever noticeable without one.

Can we see some robot mode comparisons with the other POTP dinobots when you have time?

Just got mine today and it's the toy I've wanted since I was 3. It's got the look of a Masterpiece but is built like a brick. I can't get it away from my kids, and that's a solid endorsement.

Also, the MP Grimlock sword works great - and since I always display MP in Dino mode, he was willing to contribute.

Reminds me what a disappointment POTP Grimlock was.

SS Grimlock is the most playable but I still much prefer the Masterpiece for display and presence. My reissued version feels like it’s breaking down though (rusty screws, flimsy plastic, loose joints).

Overall very happy with SS Grimlock. Wheelie is a waste of plastic.

Does Wheelie just sit on top Grimlock or does he connect to something?

MP Grimlock is a floppy mess out the box.

Yes, Wheelie is possibly one of the worst things Hasbro has ever done in recent memory and arguably the worst figure in all of Studio Series...worse than Shockwave's nondescript paratrooper and Car Shatter. Best place for him is the recycling bin. Too bad Takara Legends Wheelie has shot up in price so much.

He has a 3mm peg on one of his legs.

There are pegs on Grimlock’s neck that Wheelie’s heels peg into.

Has any tried out giving SS Grimlock some Paleotrex powerups?

Gotta be a little careful with that MP sword. Technically it's a hair too big. You could try to wedge it in there but then you'll likely scrape paint off the sword and/or Grimlock's claws.
