Bit of a head scratcher. I haven’t heard anything in this for a while either, and the prices inc postage from Japan just seem way too inflated for a single deluxe.

The urge is always there though.

    Ebay:
    It should do.

The requirement for online marketplace supplies means eBay are responsible for accounting for the import vat, instead of it being due at importation.

VAT and overseas goods sold to customers in the UK using online marketplaces

This differs from the rules for direct sales to buyers via other methods, e.g. a company's website

VAT and overseas goods sold directly to customers in the UK

I haven't used eBay this year yet, for selling, so don't know how you're informed about it. I've seen search listings that have some say something about vat at 20%, and others that don't. Given these are in the same search results, I don't know if that's due to something related to how they've listed them (category etc.) or what they've answered to eBay questions on listing.

What I'd say is that if it's an absolute bargain, it's unlikely to have 20% vat included!

But strictly speaking the amount you pay should be split into 6, and 1/6 should be retained by eBay for HMRC reporting, with 5/6 going to the seller. Assuming the vat rate for the item is 20%, of course...

Interesting. Still don’t understand why buying stuff has to be so complicated   every bugger seems to be getting a slice of the pie these days with all these fees and charges.

I found eBay's page on the topic. Looks like it's taken care of. 2021 UK and EU VAT changes | UK Seller Centre

Honestly, I'm quite pleased with these changes. Yeah, it'll suck not getting the odd cheeky VAT free shipment from China, but I'm sure the lack of Royal Mail handling charges (and the resulting delays) will more than make up for it.

    Royal Mail won't :D

Vat has always been due in stuff from abroad, we've just had it easier recently, with the gauntlet of getting stung.

The EU are bringing in an identical rule in June or July, so we would have been ordered to do it anyway.

It's a really odd one and I've got major FOMO. Honestly don't know what to do for best as Luna Park want payment up front so it can't really be a safety pre-order I can cancel. Looking at £65 a piece including postage and that's a LOT.

I don't use eBay that much but when I've been browsing in the last week or so I keep seeing a third charge now besides the price and postage, and it's header is "Import Charges". Has that always been there and I've not noticed before, or is this how the VAT is now added on ?

Agreed. Especially on smaller consignments. That Royal Mail admin fee represents 20% of 60 quid, if it's 12 quid, so every smaller purchase that gets caught is getting hammered by a further 20-40% on top of the vat.

I probably have a hundred Marvel Legends figures and only in the last year have I had problems standing the contemporary ones. They all look like they're at a party conference or I've to get the feet stands out.

But my real bugbear is plastic tolerances, bad enough when your TF requires a trip to B&Q, even worse are the pegs on included hands that are either too big or malleable in the extreme. You could easily ruin the entire figure because of one hand!

Specialist Ratchet Status: Secured (Fings crossed!).

Totally didn't recognise the Seller's name but ebay said "you've bought from them before", turns out it's the seller formerly known as "thetftumbler" who I got my 2nd TR Megs-now-Mastoton, and my now-defunct G1 recolour FOC Voyager Grimlock! So I myself am already a part of their rock-solid positive feedback!
Just a little something to look forward to at the end of Jan. now!

Well I got a notice at 8:30 saying a parcel had been delivered to my house...

Hmmm, try left on the doorstep in the middle of a storm. Slightly miffed to say the least - it was the retro headmasters from comics.

need to see if they dry out ok now...

Those are from Pop in a Box, but there's a good chance Amazon or anywhere really will have them now.

Just to reiterate, this is a planned EU rule that's coming mid-2021. They'd have to do it there too.

I fully expect we decided to bring it in immediately on leaving so that we didn't have problems with Northern Ireland having to be EU compliant and GB using completely different rules.

Edit: I stand corrected. EU had planned for 1st January but delayed because of covid.

Sure looks more together in the front end in the listing pic.

Plus both other purchases were rock solid on the quality front, still fings crossed
