I like the movies very much, but I'm not sure what they would do with Kid. They covered his story well enough.

Unless we're suppose to watch middle age Kid just living a normal life pretending to be dead.

I like the Young Guns movies, but there’s no material left for them to cover. Young Guns 2 ends with Pat Garrett potentially letting Billy the Kid go, and Brushy Bill telling the story and claiming he was Billy the Kid before he died. There’s really nowhere to go with the story unless they’re going way off the beaten path of history, and they’d pretty much only be bringing Emilio Estevez back out of an all star cast. Not that that’s a bad thing since I like Emilio Estevez and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him in something, but it makes a sequel a bit less appealing not to have that cast of old and new stars at the time back. The only way I can see a Young Guns 3 story happening is if they essentially rip off Red Dead Redemption or Unforgiven. With all of that being said, I’ll still probably watch it because Billy the Kid is my favorite western outlaw and I’ve been on a big Western movie kick lately.

I don't know what's worse at this point. Rebooting another dead franchise from the 80's/90's, or making sequels to them 30+ years later. Never seen Young Guns before, but I see that it's owned by Fox, which makes it owned by Disney now. So, makes sense that it's being made now. Because you know, Fox and Disney teaming up is still not a good thing.

I know I saw it on Amazon Prime recently, I'll just watch Young Guns instead, thanks Disney's Fox.

Blah, I bet they'll just de-age him like they did Luke and Leia. Then, they'll practice necromancy on those who are now dead. Nobody escapes Hollywood. Not even with their own death. They just become a CG puppet, a product.

After 3 decades, how can any of them that might be left be called ‘Young’ Guns?

Apart from the Bon Jovi song, which still gets played on the radio, Young Guns never seemed to be much of a thing. I had never even heard of the first film and only knew about the 2nd was the Bon Jovi song on the radio and MTV.

Seems at this point, just reboot it and have any old cast just have cameos.

The first movie was huge when it came out. Sheen, Estevez, Sutherland and Philips were all pretty big names at the time. Philips has since faded into obscurity, but the others are still names. The second movie did not recapture the first's popularity, despite adding another now-faded but at the time popular name, Christian Slater. The second movie is just okay, but the first is an absolute classic.

But by the end of the second movie, all the characters other than Billy are killed. A sequel would have to have Billy team up with (mentor?) an entirely new cast of new gang members, and probably be set in a later time period. Late 1890s-early 1900s? I guess they could shift from cowboys to gangsters like Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Bonnie & Clyde or whoever. Who knows.

This is one of those cases where I don't particularly care if they do it or not. But I would prefer a sequel to a reboot.

The gangster bit has been done. Check out the movie Mobsters. When it came out the running joke was that the movie should've been called Young Tommy Guns.
