My very first memory ever of Transformers was a toy advert of Rail Racer, which I watched while sitting on the floor near the TV in my old Grandma's house.
Oh hell yeah, Rail Racer is great. There really hasn't been a combiner designed like him before or since. I own the toy (minus a few pieces of Midnight Express' gun) and the engineering is still pretty dang impressive for all three figures.
Rail Racer is fascinating to me in that he feels more akin to the likes of Magnaboss and Tripredacus than to any other combiner. It'd be great to see more three-bot combiners like him.
I love the combined form of Team Bullet Train, but the worst figure of the bunch is Midnight Express. If we ever get an updated version of Rail Racer and the "massive" legs on Midnight Express are fixed, it will be an instant buy.
I used to have this guy. Kinda regret selling him off, but he is definitely a cool & unique combiner. I first saw him in Car Robots, where he was known as JRX. J4 (Midnight Express) was my favorite of the individual team members. He was voiced by a woman in Japan to give him a young exuberant feel, so when they decided to go with a G1 Tracks type of voice for the dub, I was kind of aghast. At first. I got over it. But yeah, I always put Rail Racer/JRX in my top 3 favorite combiners. He’s awesome.
I love how well-integrated the components are. At first glance one might not realize he's a combiner!
I have this guy, and he's easily one of my top fav combiners (if not the top fav). Something about his design just hit all the buttons of what I like.
Still kicking myself for never getting one of those Korean JRX sets back when they were cheap. An awesome combiner we need to see more of. I so miss when gestalts weren't just "Scramble City or Devastator."
Scored a JRX gift box set prob like a decade ago and it's still one of my favourite peace's in my collection. Amazing execution, great self presence. Really shows how older toys just had more budget to spend on details back then for a toy with no collectors market. Honestly still puts some newer toys to shame.
