Update 2021/7/7: The drills are now finished and available! Check this post for all the details! Update 2020/5/3: Scroll down to see more Original post: Drills for Combiner Wars/Unite Warriors Devastator. The drills do spin. Should be compatible with all upgrade kits. More is in the works to add storage options and bot mode & alt mode usage. Feedback welcome. Thanks to @wingsaber86 for encouragement and help on this project!
those are pretty sick and very well designed. will you be posting those up on your thingiverse page...?
Thanks! I want to get further along in my development of the supporting accessories, to make sure the design of these parts doesn't need any further changes, before I share them, but yes I do plan to make them available.
Really cool. very interested to see what you come up with to incorporate them into any Alt modes. I made a set of drills from a spare set of CW Devy forearms and 2 Lego Rock Raider drills, with ideas to make them into little trailers. But I can’t get that idea off the ground...
I don't see why I couldn't. I should probably just give in and buy a CBB Devastator for upgrade development purposes... They are actually seriously pointy! You could do some damage!
One piece of Transformers Devastation that keeps on giving. I wonder if you could partner with a company to get this made via injection molds...
I've made lots of progress on bot- and alt-mode compatibility, here's an update! First of all, I've made an alternate smaller drill size, which could be more appropriate for bot-mode usage. I also plan to make an extra-large drill size too, for those who want Devastator to have really big drills. To cover all of the possible applications with a minimal amount of plastic, I've created a modular system. If you only want to use the drills in Devastator's combined mode, all you need is the drill base (right), which clips into the stock wrist piece. To use the drills in individual bot and alt modes, you'll need what I'm calling the adapter core (left): The adapter core slides onto the drill base to form one solid unit: The base+core is designed to work as a standalone piece, or it can fit inside the stock wrist piece, to create a larger weapon: The hole on top of the adapter core is to accommodate the 5mm peg inside the stock wrist piece. The bottom of the adapter core has a tab for pulling the core back out of the wrist piece easily: The adapter core can accept the various adapter modules I've designed. They just slide into place: Here are the adapter modules I've created. From left to right: Bot-Mode Hand-Held / Bot-Mode "Wrist Mount" Right & Left / Scavenger Alt Mode / Bonecrusher Alt Mode / Long Haul Storage Hand-held mode with small drill bit: Wrist-mount mode with small drill bit: Wrist-mount mode with stock wrist pieces attached and large drill bits. Storage on Long Haul's back with large drill bit. Also works with the wrist piece attached. Bonecrusher & Scavenger (with large drill bits): Funny story, while taking these photos I dropped Scrapper and broke the tab that locks his shovel in place. I guess now I need the part I designed to fix that exact problem... I think the engineering is now basically complete - everything works and works pretty well. I'll now do more work on the aesthetics, refining the sculpt and adding more details. I'll update again soon! Please share any feedback or ideas!
I'm down for this too... Would love some gap fillers for the individual figures and pan covers plates that can double as shin guards for long haul.... And my devy will be almost compete... (can't find that dr wu boom upgrade for hook)
I got side tracked by other projects and put these off to the side for a while. I have been making progress recently, with almost all of the sculpt detail I wanted to add now done. I'm also going to make a version for the CBB KO Devastator, and plan to finish that alongside the standard version. So progress is being made slowly but surely (it's become a big project) and I hope to have more news to report soon.
