I’m more into the Nemesis kitters, but I think it could do with some splashes of turquoise to break up the deco a bit.

They’re both really good, though Lio Convoy’s beast mode’s back legs aren’t too posable based on how they peg together. Still, bot mode rules.

Not gonna deny that Lio Convoy is an awesome mold but it just seems odd to get a repaint of him so soon instead of some of the other samurai figs.

 

No I don't think it is odd
-he was released 6 month ago ?same timing as transmetal megatron)
-a repaint is always easier faster to release because the mold is actually done (but I think you already know that)
-he was announced in this timing also because of the Shanghai event when they announced all their planning releases of 2021 and 2022.
-because of the reason mentioned above, most of their upcoming samurai fig are still in the 3d rendering (no prototype yet).
-We still have a lot of previously announced fig to see before the newly announced samurai fig (ultra magnus, soundwave, galvatron etc)
- the next samurai fig which wont be a repaint will come out at second half of 2021 in my opinion.
But now you make me think of interesting question (thank you for that)

IF made 2 beastwars and 2 samurai fig. Then they went all in for samurai. Does this means the sale or profit (not always the same thing) for the bludgeon and leo convoy were better than best wars ?

 

I don’t think the expanded Iron Samurai line’s designs were whipped in response to preorder demand for Lio Convoy and Bludgeon, most of all because I don’t think there would’ve been enough time for that.

Instead, I think this has been a conscious decision made long ago to do something different and that would maybe take some heat off of them when MP and, even more so, Movie inspired figures have been getting that bad attention from the authorities. Now, I think it’s more about just doing something to diversify their offerings more than it is to skirt legal repercussions, but maybe it’s a more equal mix of both.

 

I am waiting for the black version.

 

Not sure how I feel about the Iron Samurai line. For a figure like Lio Convoy who for as far as I know didn't appear in the IDW comics and a figure like Bludgeon, or Banzai-Tron for that matter, I don't mind the Samurai motif but with a character like Ratchet who played a big part on the Lost Light I'd prefer a more IDW inspired version.

 

Jumping straight into the samurai line repaints, skipping soundwave 2.0 AND the 2019 reveals that still need to come out?

Me playing devil's advocate: production of a repaint generally doesn't delay new products design. Multiple figures can be worked on at different stages simultaneously without interfering with each other.

 

I have this figure in my Pile at BBTS and if I like it as much as I think I will I’m interested in that black repaint with the remolded parts.

 

Just ordered this guy from showz after having Honekumoki and him quickly becoming one of my favorite recent figures. I am so down for this whole samurai line! Quick question: Do you need to have the fist hands attached to transform him, or can you do it with some of the other hands he comes with?

 

Fists work best, but you can do it with the sword holding hands too. However, part of the knuckles stick out slightly.

 

Thanks for the response! It's the same with Honekumoki. It's doable but makes the tank mode look 5% less good than with the fist hands. I'm good with keeping the sword holding hands in even if it looks a bit odd.

 

just like Honekumoki, it's the samurai mode of this figure that really shines. beast mode is decent but personally isn't anything to write home about.

made some more paint updates to my custom v2. metallic blue added to the sword blade and the accents of the crest on the helmet.

 

Looks great! I might have to do the same to mine when I receive it.

 

Which mold would be the corresponding sg megatron?
Maybe the upcoming galvatron, or dragon megatron for a beast version

 

figure in hand, I’m a little torn on it. It looks fantastic, but it’s very fiddly. Not quite as much fun to play with as I’d hoped.

Bot mode is aces. Tiger mode is pretty good, but the way the tail can be secured hinders basically all of the rear legs’ mobility. Eh.

 

you can leave the legs untabbed from the rear portion of the back to give the legs more articulation, but it'll make the alt even more fiddly.
