Still ugly, no matter how you look at it. They could redeem it by using better plastics though, but they didn't, and in the end Amazon JP had to sell it for 50% off.

 

Just got my notice to pay off smokey, now all I have to do is successfully get a bandit preorder or this lot will be a waste.

 

I can't speak for him, but I contacted FT 2 days ago about a replacement smokestack for Roadking, and Dalianjj got back to me yesterday. It was through email to Service@Fanstoys rather than PMing him here though.

Still wish the pre-orders weren't all sold out by the time I got to them. And I was fairly early trying to get them last year, too...
Oh well, here's hoping I find an extra Smokey for a reasonable price once he's out.

I'm curious about the final combiner though. I really do hope that FansToys don't end up going with a second trailer. I don't see the point. I'd rather have non-transforming pieces and save on price, or perhaps even make the combiner pieces turn into a half-assed base mode (like Zeta's Bruticus does) so that people don't whine about them doing nothing whilst not combined. As long as it doesn't jack up the price, of course. But either way, I'd still prefer just the one trailer (which Roadking already has, of course).

This would have been my preference (if they absolutely had to do the built-in trailer on Roadking, I mean). Something easy to transform the skeleton into but passible enough that I could actually keep it displayed with the rest of the set instead of sticking it in storage. With the second trailer, I just can't see myself bothering to transform it into trailer mode (at least not often), so I'll probably just figure out a way to ball it up to conserve space while storing it.

I know the built-in trailer is contentious but I personally love it. Each of the three Motormasters handles it differently but Roadking is the most accurate in this regard. I know he has a backpack because of it, which initially put me off when I saw it, but after seeing how it's engineered, I think it's perfectly acceptable (plus XTB Gravestone has the shoulder pieces sticking out almost as far anyway).
But yeah, I definitely don't think I'd bother with using the second trailer.

Well, not exactly. I know dalianjj said that's their plan, but plans change, especially given the year we've just been through. It seems they've had some delays because of the combiners, and they might have even been waiting to see what X-Transbots were doing, so we might see FansToys do something else. Or we might just see a second trailer that turns into the body, which I'd find to be the most lazy and disappointing approach. Even X-Transbots dropped the second trailer... and then jacked up the prices, but the latter isn't really anything new to FansToys. They just haven't done it in quite the slimy way XTB did it.

And as an aside, don't get too excited for any reasonably priced reissues from FansToys any time soon. Seems dalianjj is checking out market value... i.e. the ridiculous prices that some people are paying for toys they missed:

Totally possible. I haven't checked the threads for those two to see if someone mentioned this thread (FYI, I've got no problem with the seller, just so we're clear). But he's talked about observing aftermarket prices in the past and wondering why they sell for so much, so it's possible. I just hope we don't see him looking at the XTB trailer and going "well, guess we can charge $350+ for Dead End plus our trailer". If this set ends up (somehow) being more affordable than XTB's, that'd be rather fantastic and might even knock Keith down a peg.

 

Well, since the last official word from @dalianjj was that it would be a second trailer, I think it’s safe to say it’s confirmed. If some official word comes out to the contrary, that would be the time to expect it to be anything other than what was previously stated.
