    No, not end of story.

SS86 Hotrod. They found a way to cover the backs of those legs. I'm perfectly willing to pay higher prices for that.

And if you don't want higher prices, well, they did the legs perfectly well with Sideswipe and Red Alert. And those are just the toys I have. Pretty sure its been done elsewhere.

Spoiled? Whatever. I prefer to think of it as aspirational instead.

I think I can help clarify things: Huffer probably could have had flaps that cover the back of his calves, but at his relatively small size, in order for them to be thick enough to be reasonably durable they might cause ground clearance issues in vehicle mode (unless they were to make the vehicle mode sit unreasonably high off the ground), unless they were separate pieces (which would then aggravate the "no partsforming" crowd, etc. etc.). Or, in vehicle mode, they could flip between the lower legs, but then at this small size that could make the lower legs look too skinny in robot mode. It's a set of compromises. Hot Rod could solve that by having an actual extant part of the car fill in the back of the legs, and Sideswipe was larger enough that it didn't cause as much of a ground clearance problem.

    And?

Hot Rod ships in the same wave as Kup, who still has plenty of exposed hollows on his backside.

Again, nothing to ever suggest that there's a design standard there.

The fandom managed to live through the entire Beast Wars era without complaining about hollow parts.

Well, I meant that back during the "balljoints everywhere" design phase of Beast Wars/RiD/et al, there were just as many hollows and nobody ever really complained then. People complained like crazy for PotP.

Not being contrary, but FunPub's Machine Wars Starscream* is my favorite version.

I don't think I have the Depth Charge version, but I have multiples of the rest as a bad ass phalanx

*Not because I think he looks like MW SS, but just because the deco is great

Core class Starscream looks great. I do wonder if he’s small enough to fit into a G1 Pretender shell.

I actually forgot about the MW Starscream. (as a Machine Wars fan I feel ashamed at having done so) He's also a fantastic use.

That raises the question. Should the Classic Pretenders be the size they were before getting a Pretender body? Or would they canonically shrink down? Hmmm.

Marvel keeps them the same size as other robots. They never shrunk down to human size.

They canonically shrunk down to Human size in Super God Masterforce.

Personally, I'm more in favor of reimagining pretender shells in a manner similar to Weaponizers and Modulators, IE turning them into a suit of armor that homages the original shell, but that can also be reconfigurable into other forms. For example, a modern Bludgeon would have the core robot, plus armor that turns into something that homages the original pretender shell, or that can be taken apart to be added to the tank mode as adaptive armor or extra weapons.

I like this idea. I would only add that the inner robot would need a heavy redesign cause the original core robots were super lackluster.

It would be interesting if HasTak ever tries to update this concept again. :-/

Was referring to the inner bot, as the topic was Core Starscream, which would have the likeness of the inner bot but would be about 1:60 scale instead of 1:35 scale like most of the WFCT.

That would be one of my choices for modern Pretenders for sure.

This. My definitive version of this figure. I love the color scheme, and don't consider him MW SS in my collection.

@Venomus Rodimus Yeah, gun laws wont let kids have kids have Megsy back in gun mode. And a tank does seem to be a logical alternative.

Or a spudger. Seriously, they worked wonders on Grapple, they'll do the same for Inferno. That said, it's ridiculous that they didn't fix the issues that mold's been having. Shame on them, they know about these complaints. A company like that isn't stupid, they have people scanning these (and other) forums and they know what people are complaining about.
