I cant stand the toon slavishness of current "Masterpieces" and Sunstreaker was guilty of it so much. But I got Spinout and switched a handfull of parts between them and it made Sunstreaker finally good looking. Spinout with those leftover bland and grey parts works ok, certainly better than Sunstreaker. There is a couple toyhax on them too. Anyhow, it is a fairly easy mod. Shins and heads are plug and play (spudger the shins from the top), shoulders take a screw and just forearms and wrists are a bit annoying with those pins, but easy enough to hammer them out. Very happy with the results. Black makes great contrast with yellow, thank Primus for shin details and new head takes the cake. Just a pity neither came with the big gun chromed, gotta try some of those chrome pens.
Nice! I made my own Toy Accurate Sunstreaker on here with a MP KO and a Omnigonix Spinout head. I have MP39+ too now, but I didn't want to have to swap parts and end up with a red cartoon Sunstreaker. It's great to see what he looks like though!
Much better! I'm with you on the shift to animation designs, but it's saved me a bunch of money on not buying any MPs past Inferno (with a big exception for MP 36+).
Thank you @deadalertcorps44 Nice, more toy accurate with those extra paints. @SMOG Indeed. May they do cartoonpieces, but then they should keep working on it, add details, make it look good - make it a masterpiece and release that as well. But then again, the overengineering and some proportions cant be saved with more details. Hopefully they will do better when the next MP restart comes. @spencer1984 Yes it has. I continue this tangent in spoiler tag: Spoiler MP Inferno is strange, because in his toon parts configuration he makes me puke and with the toy parts he is still pretty bad. BUT with all toyhax stickers applied, and I added a couple extra chrome sticker strips too, he is suddenly amazing and the best out there, better than 3P options and everything. I like him very much. But still, it would have been much better to have more moulded details, especially on shins, instead of just stickers.
It's crazy that the MP Line doesn't include both sets of parts. Inferno/Grapple had some options at least, but if you want a toy-style Tracks and Sunstreaker, you have to buy a Loudpedal and a Spinout. It sucks. Your Grapple/Inferno pair look pretty nice. They are really good, well-designed figures, but for robot aesthetics I still prefer Maketoys. zmog
Wow, you're not kidding! I'm surprised at how much better that looks, to the point where I may have to rethink my Inferno. I had preordered all three variants of the mold, but was disappointed with them in hand so they never made it onto the shelf. Seeing this, though...
Looks awesome! Really sad you had to destroy Spinout to fix your Sunstreaker though (I still don't care for the HUGE Autobot symbol on MP-39's chest. The symbol on Spinout looks way better.) It is really crappy of Hasbro/Takara to not include an extra head for Sunstreaker with either Spinout or Cordon!
They look nice! I'm not a fan of the toon look either, and want the original aesthetic of "toon-meets-toy", so I'm not a fan of "full toy" either. That said, your efforts have paid off to make a really good custom!
Thanks! I like Spinout this way anyway. Certainly wears the boring toon parts better than Sunstreaker.
Impressive. I haven't handled this MP mold in a long time, so I want to ask -- no repainting at all needed here, the black/gray shin panels separate from the colored bits? I might want to try this myself, especially if it's as reversible as it seems!
No paint. Reversible. Shins and heads are plug and play (spudger the shins from the top), shoulders take a screw and just forearms and wrists are a bit annoying with those pins, but easy enough to hammer them out.
Brilliant! Looking at actual prices for Spinout, I'm realizing I may have to wait quite a while before giving this a try. But this is definitely a great option to have.
I gotta say, not only does Sunstreaker look really good toy-ified like that, I also think I like Spinout a bit better somewhat toonified in turn, like that. The red/grey almost works better than the red/black to my eyes, plus the toon head gives him a little more life. Both are looking real nice.
