The egg doesn't explode, the non-rechargeable batteries do. That was 100% user error.

This. I don't like XTB, but this is really an accurate description of what happened. The egg is just a casualty.

 

I think XTB’s Defensor might sell well as the only clear option for that size unless FT drops news that they’re getting in as well.

 

Takara proved that fans are willing to shell out larger amounts when they sold MP-44 for $440. Fans Toys followed suit, going as far as charging $240 for their Astrotrain which was something like $100 markup over their larger and more complex Springer, because Fans Toys knows that they can get away with it (just look at the aftermarket prices for FT toys on ebay). But MMC and DX9 never really increased their prices. If it was something like rising expenses or COVID driving up the price everyone would be doing it (and to be fair, shipping costs have gone up which has led to small price increases at US-based stores). But the only honest way to explain the prices XTB has put up for the trailer, Kup, and the Egg is that XTB saw Takara and Fans Toys doing it and they've deluded themselves into thinking that their stuff is on the same level.

To be fair to them I don't think MMC originally planned to do an accessory kit. They were all set on the cartoon-style all-in-one, which you don't need the kit for. But people started telling MMC's people here that they wanted a toy-style option, and they wanted silver shoes. MMC decided to put the parts for a toy/Studio OX-style head, chest, gun and the shoes into an accessory pack instead of releasing a toy-style Onslaught and splitting the base. That's a bit better than telling us the accessories would be included with another release and then separating them into two overpriced purchases.

Received the trailer yesterday and have to say it’s been the most complex, unsatisfying transformation I’ve done in a long while. It’s presence on the other hand is unmatched.

I’m also content without the accessory pack. Thank you X-transbots and TFS-Express!

In response to XTB “deluding itself” into thinking it’s on par with the other two. I just got the cartoon Aegis and the materials and quality feel completely on par with Fanstoys and Takara, maybe even more sturdy. I think you don’t give them enough credit.

Looks great, except that face just doesn't do it for me. Feels really bad paying $75 for a freaking face plate. I dunno. Maybe someone will make some like they are doing for DX9 Attila.

 

Disagree, I sold my Aegis 2.0 super quick. Given how tight the transformation is (parts rubbing together), it's pretty much guaranteed that paint will come off in the future.

 

I have XTB's Kup, Hoist, Cosmos, Wheelie, Beachcomber, Windcharger, Scourge, Seaspray, and all five Stunticons. I also have a ton of stuff from KFC, MMC, DX9, Fans Hobby, Takara, Unique Toys, BadCube, ToyWorld, Zeta, Maketoys, etc. I'm not saying that XTB doesn't make good stuff. I'm not saying that everything Fans Toys makes is great, either (and yeah, most FT stuff is overpriced). But I am saying that Fans Toys' best is better than XTB's best.

But more than that, I think it's less about quality and more about fandom. Takara will always get sales from the official-only crowd. And Fans Toys is like Apple, they have a core of fans who will pay whatever just because of the brand. I don't think XTB has either of those things. They're still trying to shake a rep for shoddy QC that I don't think they've truly deserved for two or three years now.

Thanks about extending the feet! It’s even more stable now. I was following Bens transformation/review and looks like he forgot to extend the feet also for anyone using that video.

 

Yes yes I have all of those figures and more too. I disagree but to each their own.

I will agree that XTB probably doesn’t have the following the other two have for sure, and that the QC complaints and legacy for XTB seems out of whack with the product they produce and the QC issues with the more favoured companies.

Trust me I’m also not a hater of other companies either, probably have about as many Fans Toys figures as Takara and at least on par or just slightly less than XTB. I’m actually a really big fan of Unique Toys/DX9 and I was sad they folded. Hell I’ve decided to pick up Buzzing just because I love their take and QC on their figures. I also just got MMC Girder and he’s an awesome figure too. Really I’m not a brand snob at all when it comes to 3P!

 

By extending the feet, I'm guessing you mean extend the heel spurs?
