Some people on the boards genuinely have self-control problems and try to play it off through bandwagon appeal. No, "we" don't all preorder toys we think look terrible, it's just you.

It was a few years ago, but it just goes to show how hypocritical people can be.

Ironically, the person who started it wound up proclaiming that Naruto was the best thing he had ever seen in his life a year or so later. But thats enough in this thread. If you ever want to talk about this sort of thing, DM me. Thats where I do most of my posting.

Oh and uh, T30 Skybite is a good figure.

Kinda sorta. At the time the Sunbow cartoon was being produced, in the States at least the term Anime was usually used for a very specific style of Japanese animation (and was also frequently referred to as Japanimation). Younger fans may use the term as any animation as the Japanese do, but people of a certain age who don't follow that particular subculture likely are still using it in that older Americancontext.

I grew up with some G2 and Beast Wars stuff but I wasn't truly a Transformers fan until I saw that episode about Wheeljack and Hot Shot's history one morning before school. It hooked me and got me started down the rabbit hole that is Transformers. I hope Wheeljack is on the cards for the post-Kingdom Armada stuff.

The T30 Armada Starscream figure was decent for its time, but over time.... I find myself wanting a better toy representation of Armada Starscream than both the old Armada and T30.

The old Armada "Voyager-class" toy got shelf presence, made out of solid plastic material and packs a lot of fun gimmicks... but just like most figures of that time, it's a brick that can only justs stands there and looks fancy.

The T30 one is decent for its time, but it's just too damn small, it scales with nothing (other than, probably the Deluxe "Bendy" Prime) and I don't like the omission of the character's signature wing sword look in flavour of two puny folding translucent plastic swords.

My ideal CHUG Armada Starscream would be an ideal mix of the best aspects of both figures; With the improved articulation of the T30, but with the shelf presence, size, and solid material of the old Armada figure.

This an unpopular toy opinion thread.

Anyway, for the most part, I enjoyed Armada, it's just I've never really appeared to anime or kids movies...

    or rom-com...
    or anything most people like.

G1 was made for an American audience, produced by an American company who farmed out the animation to Japanese companies. So no, it isn't anime. Unless you think Batman the Animated Series is anime as well?

This isn't a knock on anime - my favorite TF series, RiD and Masterforce, are both anime. But since the original cartoon was produced by an American company for an American audience, it's not anime. Or, since they farmed out the animation to Japanese companies, and it's based on Japanese toys, it's honorary anime if you like.

This is the unpopular toy opinion thread. Your discussion would fit better in the corresponding thread in the General section. Interesting, though.

The toys were awesome; it was the show that was terrible. Hell, part of my problem with the show was that the characters didn't look like the toys, and in most cases, looked nowhere near as good. We're talking Sunbow Combaticon levels of inaccuracy, here. I know the toyline and show were developed in parallel, but would it have killed Mainframe to get updates on the development of the toys and adjust their animation models accordingly? Prime was done in parallel too, but in general they managed to get the show models matching the toys (and vice-versa).

    1) I don't think you need Skylinx. The point of the GO set is to replicate the base mode.
    2) All you need from Omega Supreme is the minicon, in which case you might be able to find him available on eBay.

That could potentially knock you down to under $100, because I doubt that you'll need to cough up $40 for the minicon.

Heh, I actually have been checking. None are listed and none have recently sold.

Hasbro has me by the feels and I'm currently in a mental battle with myself. Old me says just buy 'em and be done with it. Now me says it isn't worth the headache and I just need to get right out of this hobby.

I posted this in the 2009 cool stuff thread. My Omega Supreme has since gone off to time, and I had forgotten to put my Sky Lynx in the shot. They were some of the last of the G1 figures I had that were intact. I've still got my Countdown.

So this is a really, really tough call for me.

Anyways, I'm getting to specific for this thread, so here's another unpopular opinion: I think we have gotten too many Optimus Prime figures lately. They come and go so quickly I don't know why anyone would even try to keep up. I miss the old days of there just being "Optimus Prime" and he was available on toy shelves for two years.

I believe that would make it obsolete rather than redundant?

Actually, redundant is a correct term for that. Commonly it is assumed that redundant means “duplicated” or similar, but if you look it up it just means:

not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.

so the opinion is that combiner wars, because of scales brought into use in subsequent lines, no longer fits in with other modern figures.
