This might be a silly question and maybe it's already been done, but I've always thought Combiners should be able to transform into forms that match their teams.

For example since the Aerialbots are all flyers maybe Superion can turn into an airborne aircraft carrier or with the Seacons being swimmers Piranacon could turn into a Kraken or some other giant sea monster?

No, I don't think Hasbro could pull off the combined altmode decently and have all the other modes still adequate. They can't even make triple-changers decent half the time. It'd just be pushing too much into the figures.

 

I remeber the Thrust/Ramjet combiner clones were able to transform, but that was because they were modified and all had the same body type.

As for if it could be done by HasTak or 3P in plastic form, I doubt it. But I also use to doubt that they could make a screen accurate transforming Knight Optimus. So I suppose anything is possible.

But I'd also like to see a Combiner that has more robots forming it, so it is actually bigger - and not just a slightly tall than usual robot standing on two smaller ones. I know they cheat in the fiction, but imagine a combined robot where a few make the feet, ten of them make the legs etc. etc.
Don't think I could afford the toy though...

Well, I guess all combiners have an alt mode already - lot's of smaller guys/vehicles/animals.
Which should be used more as a battle tactic - "Bruticus, Menasor, Predaking - transform and increase our troops and firepower!"

 

I'm sure that any combiner could easily become a "battle station mode"

 

It's a neat idea, but I don't see it happening anytime soon, and I don't think it should happen.

 

If superion has a similar concept to this, then yes.

Actually, the more I think of it...it sounds so ridiculously awesome that I really want to see it one day!

 

I wouldn't necessarily mind it myself, even if only in the comics (since I doubt Hasbro would seriously pursue it - doing so would probably make any such toys prohibitively expensive).

 

I could actually be quite easy to make the toy. Here is an example idea:

Scramble city style 5 robot combiner. This will turn into a jet for the sake of being an example. All of the bots combine normally but a 6th one does the job of adding the combine kibble (chestplate, shoulder cannons, helmet).

To transform, the arms pivot forward on the shoulder joints and attach together. The combiner chestplate swings back up and covers over the arms. The legs acordian up and the feet kibble transform into jet boosters. Finally, wings unfold from the 6th bot, finishing the alt mode look.

Alternatively, the 6th bot could detach and parts form but I tried to avoid that.

 

I'd be curious to see it done? Maybe I'm just curious to see a massive Chimera / clusterfuck form for Predaking.

That'll be f*cking awesome! Imagine if Superion transformed into a giant autobot shuttle, predaking as a lion or dragon, Volcanicus as a T Rex etc.

 

I'm gonna say no. I just like that once we get to the giant combined form, that's enough.
