More specifically on this, the stickers and Arms Microns were supposed to attract in the Gundam buying audience. But, it didn't. The TV show also didn't really appeal to the audience as, y'know, dubbing the shockingly serious Transformers series as slapstick comedy was perhaps, not widely enjoyed.

Prime basically killed the toyline in Japan

    Oh boy, you didn't know

So uh, you know how they redubed Beast Wars into all jokes all the time rather than its 'can be serious, can be jokey' original?

Did you know they've done that to... Every American produced Transformers line, ever? Now, there's obviously not been too many of those, but whereas that may work for Animated, it did not work for Prime. At all. There's a reason they didn't produce season 3 of Prime, and that's because the show died.

Now, unfortunately I don't know anyone in the Japanese Transformers community and if anyone subbed Prime over there for them to digest and if there's a subsequent subs versus dubs thing over there, and if they like that more, but I do recall there being that discussion on Beast Wars.

Yeah Japan has this odd trend of dubbing over US made transformers cartoons to make them goofy and ‘funny’. I dunno the full details, but from what I’ve read it’s to a point they would ad-lib over scenes where a character is clearly not moving their mouth. Also every character had a verbal tic they would spout every time they fired their weapons.

Also, Airazor was made a dude.

The director of Beast Wars, Prime, and Cyberverse, Yoshikazu Iwanami, also did the same thing with the 90s TMNT and the 90s X-Men dub on TV Tokyo. Man's got a style for sure.

I think Transformers in Japan are like a cult hobby right now.

The fandom are still going consisting of those who grew up with it mostly, mech shows are not as abundant right now in Japan.

Not to mention they made the completely bizarre decision to say Animated is a prequel to the live action movies, however the hell that is supposed to work.

Obvious. David Kaye voicing optimus made him evil and turned him into Murder Prime from the movies. Duh.

This claim about the japanese continuity is disputed by official sources

I always wondered why we haven't gotten another Japanese Anime done for Transformers in the vein of the Unicron Trilogy. Not in terms of storytelling & characters, but the usual kid's anime routine of:

    1.) Here's a 25-50 episode show in Japan
2.) Toyline releases during show's run
3.) Anime gets dubbed into other languages as the toyline gets prepared to be imported to other countries

We've had so many American-made stories for Transformers these past several years. I think it's time for a shake-up. I really wanna see what modern animation studios & story tellers from Japan would do with Transformers. I hope it happens some day soon.

I believe Japanese broadcasting standards require episode counts to be divisible by 13 (or at least it is the preferred length)

    YouTube (Legacy):
It's not as big as other things like Gundam and the such, but it is pretty popular. The Japanese TF fandom is pretty large, but it lurks in other parts of the internet.

YES! I WANT THIS AGAIN! HOLY SHIT YES!
