That art style is a big deal breaker to me.

 

People would have expectations around all of their characters. Due in part to tech specs, Dreamwave, IDW, etc.

Also, Torca and Iguanus? Why are we demanding characters who'd box them in to Fuzors/TM2 in the first issue? I'd rather slow burn.

Think about how big the casts of previous IDW TF series got. All while mixing in new characters in the first issue. I love having a new character up front and the prospect of both more new characters and triumphant debuts of toy characters.

Again, you're assuming Nyx being here precludes literally anyone from the toyline ever showing up.

 

Because it's the introduction of a new character with no apparent background in the 25 year history of Beast Wars. Fans would want to discuss it.

New beast-modes would require new toys, of which there currently are none.

But they're not waiting for anything, they don't exist, they're not deserving of anything beyond the money it takes to buy them. There still needs to be ideas for them, like if I was writing Beast Wars I wouldn't just throw in, uuuuuuh, Stinkbomb just because he's never been in anything, I'd need to have something to do with him, otherwise, he'd just be one of those background cameos who are just there to be there.

Terrorsaur and Scorponok should be my examples not yours   even when they were in the show they didn't do or say anything particularly interesting and when they died even their friends didn't care.

 

Now I want to see a Transformer that turns into a pelican with a beak working the same way as Animated Swindle's chest drawer.

 

I'm not worried about the one of each alt mode thing. I'm more in line with Verno's above take, that there are already so many toy only BW characters that are waiting for a chance to shine. Additionally, including Sonar wouldn't necessitate a TM2 driver plot, but it would leave the option open to see Sonar in here familiar form. She could still be bat Primal retool in here base form. Heck, they don't have to change anything about her design and just call her Sonar.

 

Iguanus had a basic figure released in the first wave of the Toyline, not just a Transmetal 2 upgrade. He could appear with no problems regarding that.

 

Again, like I said, I think there's more to Nyx's inclusion than simply being a new character. But these opportunities to tell new Beast Wars stories are scarce. It's perfectly justifiable for fans to want to see characters they know, that they grew up with, especially those that didn't appear in the show.

 

I think it's more that the Beast Wars cartoon is so beloved and so good that most writers are scared to take it in a radically different direction. But that's not to say there aren't other things you can do, you could deal with the fall out of Beast Machines' ending, you could play with the idea of Eukaris, you could have the Beast Wars characters all be mutants ala Animated Blackarachnia.

But isn't the entire point of wanting them to be in fiction that they aren't characters we know? They're toys we know, but they aren't characters, the most they have officially is their bios, but their bios can't compete with the versions people have in their heads from messing with them as kids. The version of B'Boom that someone slammed into Drench as a kid is more important to them than the writing on the box that they ripped through and they're never going to get the version they've written in their heads over 25 years. A new character however doesn't carry any baggage like that.

But, like with Sonar, there's an expectation there. And either he'd become TM2 anti-climatically, or he'd die before that and people would be disappointed.

It's lose lose. And, again, Nyx being there doesn't block any existing toy/character from showing up later. Hell, I'm half expecting some huge upending change beyond her by the end of the first issue. Something that sets the tone this isn't just BW Redux feat. Nyx.

Like I said a while ago, a really really cool direction to go would be a LOST type scenario where a cluster of stasis pods crash on the far side and we've got a bunch of characters who don't even know where the Axalon is or if anyone else survived.

Not neccessarily. There's precedent for this in the show with characters like Terrorsaur and Waspinator.

 

It's not like Nyx can't become Sonar anyway if the writers decide to take it that way, name changes with body changes are really common in Transformers, Megatron -> Galvatron, Overhaul -> Leobreaker and even in Beast Wars Starscream -> Hellscream.

 

People were disappointed neither Terrorsaur nor Waspinator got their upgrades. And after that, the only TM2s based on existing characters were ones that eventually made it to air.

Hell, Terrorsaur's final shot was his hand glowing like every other TM as he sank on to the lava.

 

Well, you best let the good people at IDW at Netflix know they're wasting their time (but more importantly, yours) with Optimus Primal, Megatron and their crews.

Again, I'd use the character of Razorbeast as an example. He was given a wonderful new lease on life in The Gathering. His starring role in the comics doesn't remove your memories of him from your youth (and I speak with great insight here because Razorbeast was my first ever Beast Wars figure).

You say "they aren't characters" which is actually my point. They haven't had the opportunity to be characters. New stories give them that opportunity.

 

I'd love new beast-modes and figures, but there may never be any. Nyx or anyone else new can turn into whatever, but the vast majority of the IDW original characters unfortunately so far haven't gotten a toy (and likely never will).
