Diaclone car and two seekers looks like it could be an interesting year.

 

I don't mind the idea of optional accessory packs for things that maybe not everyone would want. Like display stands etc. I think the issue with Xtransbots was that it was two separate packs for Menasor and they were pricey. Also the fact that if you were buying the set to make Menasor (most people) they were not really optional sets, but required. It would be like making Starscream's wings an optional accessory pack (obviously I'm exaggerating, but you understand my point I hope).

The other issue is that companies like Bandai are already doing that and the accessory packs are very expensive. For example I paid over $100 CAD for a missile set for the VF-1. That's mental. Thankfully there are enough missiles to outfit 2 or 3 VF-1 figures so I most likely won't need any more. The armor parts were also a separate accessory pack at over $100 for 1 figure. So to fully outfit a VF-1 with missiles and armor I paid $400 for the plane, $100 for the missiles and over $100 for the armor parts. So obviously my concern is that Takara would have similar pricing for accessories. If they are reasonably priced I think it's a great idea and extra revenue for TT.

 

I opened Sovereign M, to check him over, but he's not out yet on my shelves. Been chipping away at my backlog slowly... a TT Galvatron would be a save for my wallet if it's worse looking, and if not, I should be able to get my money back anyway.

I haven't opened Thomas yet either, so the talk of Astrotrain isn't concerning me either.

I think if it is an FT-done figure, the odd one would be Grimlock. MP08 is too small, but v2 would be toon accurate whether they up his size or not. Now, the problem comes with FT not yet doing toon accurate versions, but having done all 5. Will TT do all 5? Doubt it. Will people who think they can only get Grimlock buy him, when FT can redo their set in yellow gold and match up nicely? Will people want TT Grimlock and the others from FT? Etc.

I think it's the one most likely to upset people who are into FT or 3P.

 

Or we could finally see Raiden... and he's too short. Like, way too short. Shorter than MP-44. I'd be mad. I wouldn't buy him. But I'd be really mad.

 

Maybe Mirage wouldn't be so farfetched as the 'divisive' release?

- Could be arguments over his blue color, leaning either too much towards the toon or too much towards the more teal-shaded toy
- Could be a rehash of what happened with Sunstreaker - toon face, no alternate toy head, saving that for a repaint
- Covered in livery/writing vs. absence of anything resembling livery/writing - in other words, no CITANES or GITANES on the sides.

On second thought, maybe not, Takara wouldn't dare release two different Diaclone Autobot cars in one year, those times are long past us.

I didn't know that Hasbro was selling Spinout for less. That's interesting. Although Hasbro Pulse shipping is ridiculous to Canada so it's most likely the same price for me in the end.  

 

Yeah, originally the online store had him for $130 or $140 and then the pulse preorders went up and they dropped them down to $114

 

They’ve got him in the pose from the season one theme and I love it.

 

I don’t think TT is particularly worried about upsetting people who have already bought a 3P version of a character they have plans to release. I wouldn’t give a shit if I were in their shoes. It’s another company stealing their IP and making money from it. Why would they care about stepping on 3P toes or upsetting fans that have bought 3P versions? I don’t see that argument holding any water.

 

I don't think phamduc means they'd care about it, just that what they're planning might upset people - and it's going to be interesting to see how it lands.

 

A divisive year ahead of us?

I'm hoping Pham is just referring to Skids, and that we aren't gonna get any other one-eighties. Like if they released another carbot that featured heavily in the toon in the Hasui style...  

Or a V2 Rodimus or Galvatron in that style (can't even imagine those sleek designs done up that way)


What else could be bad? I'm expecting the worst now  

 

I'm wondering if the "upsetting" (divisive) MP on the way is something like Chromedome?

The Japanese collectors would probably approve and welcome the character, while the rest of the world would be up in arms over Takara starting up yet another sub-line while leaving others unfinished.

Chromedome would pair up well with the animated movie releases thus far, at any rate. And with an official Trainbots / Raiden set on the way, it sort of makes sense.

 

I mean we’ve still got raiden coming, the divisive thing could be that he’s part of the “hybrid style” line...

Waaaaaaaaaaait....we’ve already had hybrid style figures....they were tiny. What if this skids is Takara’s answer to third party legends scale and he’s gonna be tiny, to pave the way for a 9” tall MP Raiden

 

At this point I'm kinda expecting that to be the case, but I don't know how much the toon models differed from the toy models. If the toon models involve crazy shrinking or the like then maybe they'll use a toy-accurate transformation to avoid fake parts (meaning less parts and a cheaper cost?), and thus toy-accurate bot modes.

 

As someone not looking past S3 (and who may even stop at TFTM), I will begrudgingly allow that to be the divisive thing.

You've promised it now. It's not allowed to be anything else. Seriously, it's not.
