3rd party has already gotten to the market first, Takara. Start making mp scaled figures that 3P haven't touched yet.

That's a lot of angst over semantics.

 

Personally I like what they've proposed with the lineart - the cartoon model was always far worse than the actual toy, and I think Savant did an excellent job overall of mixing the two. If Takara can improve on that figure, I'm definitely interested. I just hope they use the toy's colours and not the powder-blue of the cartoon.

Thrilled he's getting some limelight, after all he had a much larger list of accomplishments in Marvel G1 than most characters!

 

Ok, looking at videos of the original g1 toy, this figure looks like he is going to be a blend of the g1 cartoon model and the toy itself with better proportions.

 

Well, seeing as Skids was in a whopping two episodes with about 5 minutes total of screen time.....

 

Funny. I loved Galvatron in Earthrise.

 

Takara getting stuck it seems in that \"toon accurate\" hole, as they cannot do Skids properly since they know that wouldn\'t sell.

I\'m guessing this is happening so he can have a diaclone varient version released, also this might mean the line will come down in price thank god, I highly preferred the Hasui hybrids at fair prices over the slavish, complicated, pricey and (in the case of Grapple for example) pose/playability ruining cartoon accurate molds.

Even if we keep getting the Sunbow-at-all-costs MPs I hope we can also get some more guys like this who are simpler, less slavish to a fault, and (hopefully) cheaper/sturdier due to simpler transformations.

I kinda feel like the MP Optimus v3, Bee v2, etc design style only works out business-wise for the A-listers. I am totally okay with having the big boys get their ultra-ultra premium MPs and others can get just a premium MP. Now to be fair, I was always a fan of the older, "Hasui-era" MPs anyway.

For anyone who is into Gundam, I liken it to the MG and RE/100 lines. Both go together, but the RE line is made up of simpler and cheaper (generally) kits for more obscure/elaborate dudes who just don't make business sense at the MG complexity/price.


All of that said, I do wonder if they went back to the hybrid approach on this guy in particular just because the Sunbow model for Skids is particularly... frumpy. I guess we really won't know for sure until we see the next MP after this.

Got to admit this is the first time I have been underwhelmed by a reveal. Hopefully a colored prototype will look more impressive. Kind of concerned how small his head is for swapping faces and how skinny his arms are with what look like Hasui hands. This may be a hybrid design but not treating like you treated other releases would be a definite misstep, making stuff cheaper for cheap safe didnt go over well with mp-49. So I'm counting on some stuff still being there.

I like it, I like it! Blessed Takara, basing him on the toy rather than the show; those extra details go a long way on Skids.

You're basically picking apart the meaning of a word to draw a different conclusion but it all means the same thing.

Hey look, MP Skids! Awesome! Didn't expect that and some of the design choices! But let's ignore this left field reveal and concentrate on the language used. They didn't reveal it though, even though it was an announcement on Twitter with line art. No. They should have said 'it's coming'.

Personally I think Skids looks like a 10 year old outdated design, because it basically is.
