There is just a chance (a pretty good chance really) that his more detailed look based on the art is just a side effect of Takara trying to do realistic vehicles with toon accurate bots. But if it could mean going back to something like Shogo Hasui
designs with modern proportions and articulation I'm all for it.

So maybe characters like Windcharger or Blurr could have a chance at their own MP.
I'm already expecting a Crosscut from this.

Now, if the MPM line throws us an MPM Skids in 2021:lol
I mean, I know it won't happen, but the thought amuzes the hell out of me.

That's why you have to look at the robot components that have nothing to do with the alt mode.

The shins, the helmet, the shoulders. The upper legs, there's nothing there that has to be visible in alt mode. But they sure do look greebled.

Especially when compared to, say, Savant:

They're going to have a hard time beating out XTB's Skids, that thing is damn near perfect. One area they'll probably succeed in a superior face sculpt though.

I look forward to seeing the official MP line add its next new character in 2148.

I'm very happy to hear that MP Skids is coming. If Crosscut follows, take my money. But where is MP Blaster, his cassettes and MP Galvatron? These are no brainers in my opinion.

I read the first tweet myself (I have a BA in Japanese Linguistics if anyone needs my credentials). Hybrid is correct, they basically said that he’s a hybrid of the transformation scheme you expect, and the high articulation of contemporary MPs. Essentially old style, but with modern MP articulation standards. I think he looks pretty sweet, though I wonder if they’re going to do a more cartoon-accurate plus version for the fans who like the toon aesthetic (like myself).

More like with his lack of air time, they're using the g1 toy as the base and appropriately "toon"him for release. I'm not really expecting to see chrome thighs on MP Skids, but incorporating some of the old stickers into details and then tampo/paint them for the repaints.

I wouldn't count on it. This is specifically called out as Hybrid style in the Japanese tweet. I imagine they'll stick to toon accuracy (which they have perfected) for toon characters and possibly start peppering in more of these hybrid style figures for characters that didn't appear in the cartoon (much). It might hinge on how well Skids sells.

Certainly looks to me like a return to a blend of toon, toy, and IRL that the original MP’s were.

And I could welcome it... if I didn’t already sell of most of my MP’s when they went “toon accurate”.

But what would that mean for those who have been accepting the MP re-do’s because they want a more unified “toon accurate” collection?

It\'s about damn time Skids get some love. He had been sorely misrepresented and I will definitely go out of my way to get him.

I wouldn't say "perfected", more like, "can do really well". As perfected would call into question figures like MP-44, 45, and 51.

Right, because that's what line art for the models is for... showing you sticker and tampo placement.

Guess he doesn't have an Aurobot badge at all then.

...and for all the disgruntled Galvatron fans, this is the closest you’ll get to seeing Galvatron in an MP announcement thread this year:
