Originally, I was selling most, if not all, of my collection to cover some significant expenses and basically exit the hobby.

Now, I am selling most, if not all, of my collection to cover some significant expenses and make room for this guy. All 6 preordered haha.

Having completed my g1 Raiden last week(well, I say completed, I got all 6 boys without any of the combiner only pieces, but they're still perfectly combinable with some defensor hands) This guy is still tempting.
I'd have to see reviews and full color images, but I can't say no to more trains.

Those seem pretty fitting. But I stick with the Japanese ones, because I've developed a head canon for them that they're a group of protoforms sent to Earth and came online in Japan working with a group of Autobots who stationed there several years after the Ark had arrived, including Streetwise (who Hotspot later recruited into the Protectobots) and that police recolor Xtransbots made of Skids

Hmmm, that doesn't give me confidence either!

Good things are expensive for a reason.

Yes, so one can be more frustrated when hinges break and things are improperly assembled.

Zeta and DX9's combiners are the least expensive options among their competition and they are also the most stable, solid, and well-proportioned combiners and many people also feel they are the best-looking ones as well. So... no.

Also, this IS Zeta's trainbot design, just being put out by a different company. Probably because, after their Unicron experience, they don't want to risk going head-to-head against something Takara already announced they'd do.

You need to add shipping on top. Which is still around $600+ so still the same as other combiners. RK prices don't include shipping and they're usually on the expensive side for it!

    Exactly.

Baba/ShowZ etc will probably add 5 to 10 dollars on top of RK's prices.

And the more simplistic or ugliest too. They are cheap and look cheap in one or more modes. Zeta's "MP" Superion is so simple that it could be reduced to legend scale without making too many modifications.

Being expensive doesn't make it better mind you, but a lower price for a combiner this big which isn't a pantsformer worries me. Cutting corners is never a good thing. Hopefully, as some have stated, the price will be more in line with the norm for combiners of this size.

Preordering tentatively. If the first one comes out and the advance reviews say it's a piece of crud, I'll cancel them all.

You seem to not grasp that your SUBJECTIVE OPINION is not objective fact, but then again that hardly makes you unique here.

Superitron looks awesome, pretty much like he stepped out of the screen, and by no means looks cheap. And given the weight of FT's individual limbs, I suspect it will display better too, considering it will be able to do things like "hold its arms up." To top it off, I started buying the FT Aerialbots, and I didn't really like them better than Zeta's! Ultimately I bought a second set of Zeta Aerialbots just for robot mode. So, yeah, they really ARE that nice. My metallic Zeta Silverbolt looks pretty much exactly the same as FansToys's (both are currently in my display) except the reds are slightly less bright (deco-wise), and it's a much more fun and poseable toy in robot mode. Also, Aerialbots SHOULD be simple. I don't give FT bonus points for unnecessarily complex transformations that compromise articulation for no good reason.

Anyway, the fact that Zeta has a track record for excellent combiners, PLUS the fact that these figures' robot modes and vehicle modes seem to have gotten to a whole new level of G1 accuracy, means that these are likely to be awesome. Which was the only point I was trying to make. It's that design team's fourt combiner and so far each one has been better than the previous one, which was (at the time it came out) the best one ever. That's impressive.

Finally, that price IS the norm for combiners of this size! $100 a piece is what Constructor cost. Why are people so intent on needing shit to be stupidly expensive? FansToys and Takara already have you covered there.

Don't worry, Fanstoys will eventually make a $30,000 MP raiden. It's expensive, which means it's definitely built better. This time the corners aren't being cut, you are.

I will say it is a little worrying they're doing what appears to be the two legs first, as those are the easiest to make/hardest to judge the combined form by.

    And even that seems ambitious.
