Thanks to a 1995 design document for the Happy Meal tie-in promotion we have a glimpse at the early development Beast Wars including several unmade toy concepts. I've been waiting over a year and a half to be able to share these with people, and big thanks to Nathan(RoboticPlanetToys), my friend and current owner of this document for getting them scanned.

Images and story can be found here. Sorry to link to another site but I'm a newsy there, not here. I hope you guys find this as exciting as I do!

Wow those documents are really interesting. Neat look at the inside of the creation. $0.22 a piece and 6,250,000 prints per character. Jesus.

B1BC8FF5-16D3-44F9-99E5-981BC729FD62.png After seeing this I am 100% adopting the idea that Under-3 is the identity of an Optimus who survived into the Beast Era.

And as a customizer it means that I now need to make an Under-3 from my spare Siege Optimus.

I am in such a Beast Era kick lately. Just finished rewatching Beast Wars and about to start Beast Machines. Just ordered PotP Primal, Kingdom Cheetor, and BM Blast Punch Primal. I’m hoping to find a good Transmetals Primal and BW Inferno. These Kingdom figures really got me pumped.

TransArt has a cool MP-scale Transmetal Primal called Skateboard Gorilla. It is essentially an oversized version of the original with some diecast and more hand articulation. I know he's available at TCP and some other places. Here is a video review if you want to check it out.

To think, we could have lived in a world where Optimus was a ray.

And Megatron was a sea turtle!

While I do think that that is a really cool update to the original toy, it doesn’t work for my collection unfortunately. I don’t really go for MP. I like mainline figures and I like how the original Transmetal Optimus scales with the new Kingdom Optimus.

In my personal opinion, Transmetal 1 Optimus Primal is the best Primal figure released during Beast Wars.

I wasn’t a big fan of his design on the show, but @Napjr posted this picture in the DNA Design Optimal upgrade thread and I’ve watched some reviews of the toy since and began to fall in love with it.

I wasn't a big fan of his design in the show either. Infact, I hated it. But when I got the toy, I loved it.

No trip home at Christmas is complete without some time spent longingly staring at the collection all packed away...

Or just save up and buy a botcon Unit-3, lol

hands down my favorite. The Trans Art just needs better maces... longer, beefier handles that split open for turret mode.

Storing figures in their boxes is a genius no-brainer that I am embarrassed I haven’t thought of.
