I feel like thats the case for all the official reviews. Thats how SIEGE ended up with a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I can't wait to see how they bring in the beast bots without making things highly weird. Though maybe a little weird is just what this series needs.

I understand folks can be wary of people / sites that get early access, thinking we are softballing things to keep access. I'd just like to clarify, as much as I can because it means you taking me at my word, that I did not do that here, or for Siege.

I do try to make clear that I don't think it's epic level perfection in both articles. I just try not to focus on the negative parts. I did enjoy them, with the understanding of what it is - a limited budget remix of existing lore.

I would much prefer they put the time and money into something like this, flesh it out, pay for the visuals. I'd love to just have the WFC video game stories done up in the quality of the launch trailers for those games. But that's movie level budgets.

Not in the cards right now so I am giving feedback on what this is. Especially now, after we've all seen Siege and know what the baseline is - the Earthrise article is speaking within that scope.

    Hope that makes sense.

I don’t know if I can physically make myself watch another show as fucking bad as Siege was. The brain dead plot, the slog pacing, the insufferable dialogue and delivery, the awful character interpretations. That show did everything in its power to make me not watch it, but I did anyway because I wanted to give it every opportunity to change my mind. I don’t know if I can do the same with Earthrise if it’s literally just more of the same.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but I remember The people behind prime named it that because it was the "Prime" version of Transformers. I believe they Even discuseed it in the season 2 Dvd.

The part about Scorponok\'s size has me a bit concerned... I mean I know in the comics, he and Fort Max were slightly \"taller than average\" bots, but in the animated series (Rebirth and Headmasters), they were both Giant City Bots, and that IS what Scorponok should be in ER. The only teaser we had was one of his ramps descending from the clouds. Not much point in having a Base mode, if he isn\'t giant sized. Unless there is some major mass-shifting going on. Also while Scorponok only had one line of dialogue in Rebirth (Autobots DIE!), it was clear in Headmasters that Scorponok was the only personality in all forms. If Scorponok is just a big dumb giant, then you would definitely need Lord Zarak/Megazarak to counter that...hopefully...??

I didn’t really have any issues with Siege aside from (in no particular order)

    • Too few transformations. Oddly Megatron did transform a couple of times, but he mainly did that to blast stuff. That’s a legitimate enough reason, as I assume his tank cannon is his most powerful weapon, but I can’t remember him actually moving in that mode. He was basically treating the tank much like G1 Galvatron treats his cannon alt mode.
    • Bumblebee is way out of character. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of that type of character, but it wasn’t Bumblebee. They should have used someone else more pessimistic and taciturn. Cliffjumper maybe? Another little guy who can fit the scavenger/scout role but has a bit of a chip on his shoulder? I’m not saying that they can’t make some personality amendments to make them more complex (in fact that’s one thing I liked about this show) but I think they should be recognisable with the G1 version. More “G1 is an exaggerated depiction of their main personality trait. Now here’s the more complex version” rather than “let’s make them completely different from G1. The archetypal loyal positive autobot is now a grumpy, selfish non affiliated bloke”. I understand character arcs are a good thing, but this seems too much of a stretch. Ratchet is kind of unaffiliated too, but as a medic I think that makes sense, and I can still see him becoming more like the G1 version over time. I see him as an example where they got it right.
    • Optimus Prime’s shakey morality:
“I’ll risk everyone on Cybertron dying rather than allow them to all be reformatted as decepticons”. Considering one decepticon changed sides and another at least wavered and became sympathetic to Ratchet’s cause, this shows that decepticons are capable of complex emotions and can change like anyone else. This suggests they’re not programmed to be evil (in fact they might consider their cause righteous, which can make it all the worse in some ways) they have a conscience and make choices like all of us. So what does ‘being reformatted as decepticon’ even mean, in that context? I’m not convinced Optimus Prime would have compromised that much.
The slow speech I hardly noticed until it was mentioned here.

I look forward to the new series. This review and the trailer is promising.

Are you implying that quality isn't attainable on a TV budget?

I understand, but this is a Netflix exclusive and I compare it to other Netflix exclusive animated projects. Have you watched SheRa or Voltron? To see Transformers treated like this doesn't make sense. Neither SheRa nor Voltron were super popular in the public eye, but the shows were so good they beat the odds. Transformers gets this- something I can only compare to youtube webisodes, stretched out to longer episodes thanks to the slowed down dialogue.

By any measure I can't recommend Siege to anyone that isn't a Transformers fan. We all know the issues, so I'm not going to rehash it all, but I find the only redeeming quality is that it features Transformers and I like Transformers. Even if the budget was low, it doesn't really excuse what we're getting here.

Personally I'm just hoping Earthrise has a line as unintentionally hilarious as "I have a virus"

If they don't, then Hasbro will take away early access of not just the show, but other potential items. This is true for any site with early access for any product. It is why user reviews are much more important these days.

If you watch via the browser on desktop, you can open up controls which have speed options.

Not sure if this is available via tv or other app modes.
