I started on the AE86 and it's pretty challenging. The bags are not numbered so I had to sort them, like some kind of animal. The quality is impressive, for sure.
Started building the Saturn V, I completed the first stage (up to bag 6) in about 3 hours. I thought it would take me much more time, but I guess having the pieces divided in bags really help when searching for the next one (I absolutely refuse to do any sorting, so finding pieces is the most time consuming part of my building process). The build itself us really enjoyable, although a bit repetitive due to the symmetrical nature of the model, with lots of techniques I'm not used to. I'm also amazed by how sturdy the model is, definitely more that I was expecting despite having read reviews before the purchase.
Yeah it's pretty good. As long as you aren't waving it around like a madman, it'll stay together. The repetition didn't bother so much because I built the Taj Mahal and Death Star II and holy crap, those were the ultimate test of one's patience.
Thanks for the heads up. I've been waiting for ANY kind of deal on the Roller Coaster, but have not seen anything pop up. I guess it is time to bite the bullet and pay full price.
Well here is hoping ...you can stumble across it in the future at a good price...it is special....unusual...fantastic
I love the Roller Coaster. The set is a childhood dream of mine ever since I had the rail piece from my space set. My wife laughed at me that I wanted it day one.
Laugh though she may, you're in good company, as there are many an AFOL who've wanted a roller coaster set. Overall, my impression is that all of their fairground sets did well, but the roller coaster was the icing on the proverbial cake I'd say. Admittedly, it wasn't really that interesting to me personally. The only fairground set I got was the Fairground Mixer, and more out of the novelty of it when it came out than anything else. It's an impressive set in its own right, though. Pretty much anything Jamie Berard designs brims with excellence, and the Mixer is no exception. Looking at the upcoming lineup for 2021, I'm feeling a bit deflated. There are a few sets that are nice, but really nothing that wows me as in years past. I vehemently wish they'd do their own sci-fi theme outside of Ninjago, which offers a fair, if stylized array of mecha and sci-fi vehicles, but little in the way of space. As it's a lucrative license for LEGO, and with The Mandalorian reigniting the passion of SW fans, I don't want to see them stop doing Star Wars; however, I do wish they'd create a sci-fi heavy theme separate from Ninjago that would allow for greater freedom of style and design that would allow them to do everything from terra-forming, to future city stuff to all sorts of mecha (not all mecha need to be combat machines- industrial mecha would be a welcome addition), to different kinds of ships for different tasks. Star Wars has become a bit stale to me; admittedly, I've not seen The Mandalorian, but if Disney ever deigns to put it on Blu-ray, it's an insta-buy. To the point, I like Star Wars, but there's so much more that LEGO could do with sci-fi within their own branded theme, and I wish they would.
It has definitely been on my "to get someday" list I just didn't expect that to be today. This year was too expensive Lego-wise already. At least my wife likes the fairground theme and understands that retired means we'll likely never buy it, so she mostly didn't miss a beat when I told her it was time. She's been more than understanding this year!
I just finished mine on Christmas day and I've definitely changed my views on it. I think I was sour at first because in the middle of a total POS week. After finishing it and seeing the completed model. I was definitely blown away with the intricate nature of snapping thing together in ways I wasn't expecting either. Since I love the Architecture series, I would love if they incorporated some of those techniques into that, especially if they decide to ever make a larger scale One World Trade Center. I got the 42112 Technic Cement Mixer for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to starting that one next.
I'm right there with ya. I really wish Lego would give us more original IPs like Space. That's the main reason I love Creator so much, especially in recent years. The Pirate Ship, Space Rover Explorer, and the upcoming Cyber Drone and Space Mining Mech help scratch that itch of originality. I can only hope they continue with it and give us more down the line; or better yet, give us an entire theme. But like you said, with Star Wars around, I'm not sure chances are that great we could see a Space theme. Maybe if it had a very distinct aesthetic like Galaxy Squad or Alien Conquest we could have better luck. Until then, I'll be keeping an eye on what Creator has in store.
Finished building the rocket, total time was about 6 hours. I can confirm all the positive impressions I stated previously, this model is really a masterpiece. It's big, solid, beautiful, and stable even when displayed vertically. Really happy for this purchase.
The Brick Fan has a review up of the new Ninjago Titan Mech. I am not heavily into this theme but I might pick this up, looks pretty good as a mech on its own merits. And jointed knees! LEGO Ninjago Zane's Titan Mech Battle (71738) Review
