That was one theory I heard. Another was that Maketoys just made too as they overestimated demand and needed to move the stock so they sold originals as KOs.

 

Maketoys overestimated a lot of things.

The KOs were definitely not reverse egineered.

 

I am just so tired of Maketoys. If a company truly wants to get out of a mess like this then just put out the last two coneheads at the stupid heightened price we know is coming. Sell the original 3 seeker reissues WHILE YOU STILL CAN. Then decide if you can use that money to make Brainstorm and Highbrow. At this point, I think they have investigated or know the return on selling the designs vs just making it themselves and have determined they just cannot dig out of their hole. At that point you need capital from the Seekers to fund the remaining mold development and production on the last two. You have to push these forward and out and then get out of the damn business because its obvious you can't cut it. Off of completion and love for the characters alone I THINK Brainstorm and Highbrow will sell well. It's not Megatron, Seekers, or OP but the market is there. We know they have working resin designs. My guess is the molds are in some level of development but when they knew they had no capital for production, development was shut down. It very much appeared their financial situation deteriorated rapidly and unexpectedly because they don't know what they are doing.

 

There is no real qualititive difference between the KO Maketoys headmasters and the originals - I have both and only subtle differences in the details even make it easy to tell them appart otherwise they are essentially identical. & yes I didn't have to pay very much for the official ones though I got the KO's pretty cheap too (which is why I bought both) to be honest I didn't much enjoy the transformations so having two allowed me to leave one in vehicle mode. I would like some more other characters though, not so sure that I want to pay $150 buck for them though.

But if there is an ability to make more and keep the price under $100 I'd buy well "all of them" Targetmaster and headmaster Jnr's as well (in this scale).

 

It IS borne out if those "KOs" are actually overproduced stock that there wasn't actually demand for. Again, that's a reason to bootleg your own shit... as long as the bootleg sells for more than it costs you to produce, you're still recouping your costs.

You're right though, no KO for Contact Shot did bouy its aftermarket cost... but I also think it's objectively a better figure than the Headmasters, and many others do too, so that might be why it's more popular.

Also, watch the aftermarket costs of the official ones AND KOs skyrocket if they actually release Highbrow and Brainstorm.

 

I want highbrow, brainstorm, AND the rest of the 'bot and 'con targetmasters.
And i know of 2 other peeps just in my town that will be all in as well....
