Hello. I have returned with another custom! A simple one this time. It's my headcannon take on Galvatronus and the Dreads.

So getting into it with arguably the leader, but also not really, of the whole team: Mindshock.

    Robot mode:
    20200424_212237.jpg

First thing you might notice about him is the yellow in his color scheme. This is a choice I made to indicate who he was before his reformating by Unicron. And the fact that he also has the ability to manipulate others that are combiner compatible also hints to this:
    250px-Cyclonus_armada_tftf.jpg
And the winner is BOMBSHELL'S CLONE!

That's right, Mindshock was a mindless Bombshell Clone. That's why he can still controll others(up to 4 at ounce). The REAL Bombshell, along with Shrapnel and Kickback, are still alive and well;)

In my G1 centrick reboot headcannon, Cyclonus is reformatted from Skywarp and not only retains his teleporting ability, but said ability is amplified to be able to teleport a small group of about 5 along with himself. This also applies to Scourge retaing his Sonic Boom powers(amplified) from having been Thundercracker. They where afterall UPGRADED! Why would they loose their outlier powers? Same thing for the Sweeps.

Mindshock's ability to combine was given to him by Shockwave in season 3 after he started to vaguely remember his past. But he remainded loyal to Cyclonus and Galvatron.

    20200424_212325.jpg
    20200424_212518.jpg

    He is handpainted with:
    Citadel Abandon Black
    Citadel Yriel Yellow
    Citadel Troll Slayer Orange
    Testors Metallic Silver
    Gundam Marker Metallic Red
    Gundam Marker Grey
    Reprolables are CW Cyclonus

    Mindshock and his commander, Cyclonus:
    20200424_213024.jpg
He is holding the small wings like knives.

    His gun:

    20200424_211725.jpg
    20200424_211751.jpg

    Lastly torso mode:
    20200424_230309.jpg

With that in mind, GALVATRON himself is still his own independent being seperate from Galvatronus. Galvatronus is his own proper independent combiner. They are not the same bot.

Next up is the first member of my headcannon Dreads:

    Darksteel: Dread leader
    Robot mode:
    20200423_234855.jpg

Darksteel is the real leader of the Dreads. He is also meant to be a G1 retcon of DOTM Darksteel made from CW Sunstreacker. And as DOTM Darksteel was meant to be a homage to Beastwars Quickstrike, I kind of aimed for that as well. Though the brown paint did not turn out as dark as I wanted it.
As for him being a combinerbot, he and the other Dreads got upgraded by Shockwave in Season 3 along with Mindshock. That being said, they WILLINGLY merge with Mindshock.

His personnality is the same as his live action counterpart. He is a calculating and cold assassin who prefers the use of blades over guns as he finds that they are more reliable with no risk of jaming. That doesn't mean that he is unskilled in their use thought.

    20200423_235030.jpg

    He is handpainted with:
Custom mixed dark brown made from Citadel Dryad Bark and Citadel Abandon Black
    Citadel Abandon Black
    Citadel Wild Rider Red
    Testors Metalic Gold
    Testors Flat Gun Metal
    20200424_223932.jpg

    Vehicule mode:
    20200423_232155.jpg
    20200423_232231.jpg
    20200423_232219.jpg
    20200423_224045.jpg

The second member of my Dreads is:

Hatchet: Covert Recon Operative and hunter
    Robot mode:
    20200423_235248.jpg

Like Darksteel, Hatchet is a G1 retcon of his DOTM movie counterpart, more specificaly based on the legends figure which turned into a jet. This version is also humanoid unlike the legends version.

His personnality is basically that of an obssesive stalker when he is given a target. He will not stop until his target is found and their location relayed. This can lead him into more trouble that he can manage. But considering how he gained his name, maybe not to much trouble. For him that is:)

    20200423_235300.jpg

    20200424_211453.jpg

He is spray and handpainted with:
    Rust-Oleum Flat Black
    Rust-Oleum Metalic Brushed Nickel
    Rust-Oleum Flat White
    Testors Flat Brass
    Testors Metalic Gold
    Testors Flat Red
    Reprolables are from CW Shakedown
Mold used is POTP Blackwing and head from CW Air Raid

    Vehicule mode:
    20200423_222413.jpg
    20200423_222426.jpg

If you look closely, you will see the original Blackwing's tempographs through the paint on the wings!
    20200423_212457.jpg

    And a comparison shot:
    20200423_222858.jpg

At this point I would continue on with the last 2 members of the Dreads, Crankshaft and Crowbar, but....
    20200423_222326.jpg

I haven't begun them yet. And I do not want to do just a straight up repaint either.

The problem being that I have NEVER Re-shelled a figure before. Both the DOTM Crankcase(I have 2 ready to go) and Studio Series Crowbar and Berserker seem as they will fit(I've already measured them) but I don't know where to start regardless of which mold I use. UGH!

But i'm certain that I will figure it out.

So until then, I hope you enjoy!

I will continue to post the udates of this on this thread.

I love what you've done so far. Good luck with the reshell, that's a tough one. You may be able to take parts from the movie toys and apply them to the Offroad mold

Just start to cut and then glue on ;P
You only have to remove what's needed to make space for the new parts and of course take all of the connection points for alt mode in consideration.
Otherwise just repaint two CW First Aids.

Interesting to see a black Decepticon repaint of Sunstreaker. Alternator Sunstreaker was repainted black as Dead End.

    Very nice work.

Glad to see somebody else giving CW Cyclonus love. That toy is highly underrated, IMO. He's served as my MTMTE/Lost Light Cyclonus ever since he was first released.

Also, G1 takes on the Bayformers Dreads that also incorporate elements from their DOTM toy versions - as well as adding Darksteel into the mix - is a brilliant idea. The Dreads were part of a small number of Decepticons post-TF1 that were cool as hell instead of just weak-ass canon fodder for Murderous Prime and Bumblebee. I'd totally be up for them appearing in other continuities, as with Blackout and Barricade before them.

I really don't like Sunstreaker's head design and am really surprised that a figure with his head could look that good.

Thank you! Also, both Blackout and Barricade, along with a multitude(and I mean MULTITUDE) of other transformers from the movies and other continuities, got retconned into my G1-ish, "modernized" headcannon. Many of which I want to do appropriate customs for and some of which I have. I would love to explain ALL of this, but I can't figure out/make up my mind on which part of the forum would make the most sense to post this on. And considering that I've been working on this headcannon of mine since 2007, that'd be one hell of a task!

Sadly, not yet. But there is some good news: I finally decided which molds I'll use to reshell my CW Offroad's with too turn them into my OC Crankshaft(not Crankcase as he is still one of the Triggercons in my headcannon) and Crowbar.
Once I'm done my Rotorstorm custom, I'll put my TurboREmastered project on hold for a little bit and try to bang these guys out. Then I'll go back and continue my Turbomasters.

Interesting. I had opted to leave my figures unpainted going with just toyhax's stickers and Shapeway for alt heads and weapons.

Hatchet is my favorite alt mode with that paintjob and matching decal. Darksteel is good too.

Hello everyone. I have some good news. I have an update for this thread!

While my TurboREmastered project is on temporary hold(not for too long), I've been busy in continuing this project to complete it by doing my first ever re-shellings.

Let me show you what I have so far step by step.

Firstly, I'd mentioned that I wanted to re-shell my 2 CW Offroads with either DOTM Crankcase or SS Crowbar to turn them into Crowbar and my OC Crankshaft. I chose DOTM Crankcase. The dementions work nicely enough.

    20200423_222326.jpg

First thing I did was decide that I wanted them to look different in robot mode meaning how I reshelled them is a bit different at least in the sense that their torsos and backpacks work differently. I wanted to base my Dreads more off of their more interesting legends toys counterparts for the sake of visual variaty while still doing my own thing. So not a 100% recreation.

    So, Dread 1(D1):
After I took everything apart, I wanted to do something simple so I checked how much clearance there would be to let the head through ounce I swaped the windshield and roof.
    20210106_201128.jpg
    20210106_205913.jpg
Looking good so far, but I knew I needed to make a slider for D1. So for BOTH, I started off by trimming off everything I didn't need, removed the arms and legs and was left with this:
    20210106_222828.jpg
    20210106_222839.jpg
    20210110_220744.jpg 20210110_220738.jpg

Then I cut slider tracks and made slider brackets from styrene for stability.
    16111182319284102075791001093312.jpg

I also hollowed out the roof of DOTM CC of all the unessecary stuff and rebuilt the hinge assembly that connects the hood to the windshield with styrene and putty then stuck some pins into where screws went.
    20210107_002906.jpg
    16111182707103294892641949430166.jpg

So the end result is a success and it all lines up nicely.
    20210112_222859.jpg

Next thing is the arm panels. I started by chopping off the clips from the origional Offroad doors and removed all stuff from the inside of the DOTM doors:
    20210110_224315.jpg
    20210111_153844.jpg
Then I took my dear sweet time to allign everything properly and VERY CAREFULLY super glued the two things together. It took forever! And I did this for the 2 Dreads.

    Now for Dread 2(D2):
I wanted to do something different transformation wise for D2. I wanted to make the grill of the vehicule mode be the chestplate, but I figured that the head would need to flip out thru the windshield. So going back to this,
    20210106_222828.jpg
    20210107_014350.jpg

I found this spare hinge from a junker ROTF Ransack:
    20210109_035254.jpg
And made a bracket to attach it all together:
    20210110_021937.jpg
I'd also removed the head and balljoint from the combiner connector. I also moddified the piece that CC head was on.
    20210109_014151.jpg
    20210109_034631.jpg
Afterwards, I knew for my idea to work, I had to risk cutting through the windshield. The result:
    20210110_003551.jpg

Then I used thin plastic twist ties, superglue and putty to re-attach it all:
    20210110_014255.jpg
    20210110_021947.jpg

I also knew that the backpack would be differrent because of this. And so would the shoulders. So I did this, again with twistties, SG and putty:
    20210112_014627.jpg
    16111222827477720356023512827941.jpg
    16111223620886721567193674669483.jpg

That takes care of the torso and arm mods.

So what does all of this get me so far?
PS: In the following pictures, D2 is further ahead because I was testing mods for the legs. But I will go further into that in my next update because it isn't finalized yet. So consider it a preview.

    Well this in vehicule mode:
    20210119_174536.jpg
    20210119_174553.jpg 20210119_174530.jpg
    20210119_174553.jpg
    20210119_174603.jpg
    20210119_174613.jpg
Adjustments need to be made to connect and stabilize the hoods, but I still like where this is going:)

    As for robot mode:
    20210119_173715.jpg

I'm pretty happy, honestly. My first ever reshell attempt is turning out nicely as far as I'm concerned.

And that will bring me to the end of this update.

Next time I will finalize the leg mods that you see on D2. I'm thinking they will be identical in that respect, unless I can think up an interesting mod to make for one of them for there legs. But I will figure it out.

I hope you enjoy and I'll see you next time!
