I think that's a different head sculpt... I don't remember the original version having a mouth plate but other than that and whatever that blue/purple ghost is, looks basically the same as the original release...

I guess this explains why Wal Mart has a listing for Ectotron despite the original version being a Game Stop exclusive.

Well you confirmed it is a new head sculpt... though it's debatable if the original actually has a mouth or not... For some reason I was interpreting that horizontal line as a mouth but looking at again there's no other face details and that might just be a different style mouth plate.

Some other differences are the little thing above one of the eyes which makes me question is this version molded with the goggles permanently on? I seem to recall that the goggles could be raised up on the original head but now there's an extra piece of plastic on the head above them.

I also didn't notice that the original is white with tan/brown on the chest and now the entire thing is tan/brown with silver on the chest. Not really into the new color scheme... though I guess since it's "Afterlife" it's meant to look old and dirty... but it kind of looks old in the way a plastic toy would yellow over time rather than how the actual vehicle would look after years of being outside... or in a garage... So yeah... I like the new head sculpt but not the weird off white tan/brown color whatever that is.

 

....I know you're joking but I'd be in for that. Remold Ectotron to a lady for that one, then do yet another one so we can have a team of 4 Ectotron!

 

Ecto-1A/Ghostbusters 2. In addition to the alternate vehicle deco, replace the tan with a blue/gray like the GB2 uniforms and retool the gun as a slime blower instead of a proton wand. Pack with a 2 inch Vigo figurine in his portrait pose.

I'd also dig TFs that convert from Stay Puft and Statue of Liberty to robot modes, maybe using Kingdom Optimus Primal and Megatron's engineering retrospectively?

I think a Primal to Staypuft retool would work anyway. The key to a Lady Liberty transformer IMHO is making the torch a 5mm port weapon and having the crowned head as an arm cannon in robot mode.

 

Yeah, I keep comparing the robot decos, and the new version looks far better to me. I just couldn't get into the robot mode of the earlier version, at least not as a Ghostbusters Transformer. But the new one has the 'must-have' sirens ringing in my head.

I like the way the new silver chest goes with the silver-grilled car front/shoulders (goes nicely with the mouthplate, too), and swapping the silver around the waist and knees (which I originally thought a little random for a Ghostbusters theme) for tan as an alternative is a nice touch (IMO). The new colour layout works better for me. And that headsculpt is a definite improvement - I'm kind of getting mad scientist in basement/pest control guy vibes.




As for the vehicle mode, for me, the Ectomobile has always been an old car, even when it was fixed up. I'm kind of used to the idea of it being past it's best days.

But there were also a few things bothering me about Ectotron 1.0's vehicle mode that the new one sort of rectifies.

I kind of hope any Afterlife crossover uses the TFTM cast. The multigenerational aspect works IMHO and then we can get a Ghostbusting Rodimus or Hot Rod.

Although on the subject of retools/redecos, I think a GB retool of Siege Optimus MIGHT even work better than Ecto-35. He has a backpack that becomes his roof. He looks like an earth truck with a roof attachment. Just retool the roof/backpack into a proton pack. The neutrina wand can mount on the side. He'd look like more than a repainted Optimus.

 

I looked at the afterlife Ecto and the no ghost logos don’t appear this distressed in the movie. Sony must have decided against this look because of brand association. It gives the vehicle more character in any case.

 

Wow, this is the same mold that was used in CW Hotspot,CW Onslaught, POTP Inferno. This mold has a lot of history, almost 4 years now. Nice

 

Closer to 5 at this point.

already got the original crossover ectotron... easy pass.. plus i\'ve painted slimer\'s mouth it looked just like this afterlife\'s version...

 

I'm hoping they'll one day do a version of Ectotron based on the original concept for Ecto-1 - basically black with purple and white strobe lights. Maybe a Shattered Glass version?

 

Well as much as I love the new head sculpt, had to let this one go. There's too much coming out at the moment and I've already got the first Ectotron, so this was pretty easy to let go of

Have Lady Liberty turn into the Spaceball One. Then Hasbro can re-release it in different colors as Mega-Maid with a vacuum that turns into a cannon.

 

Still a possibility for a '22 mash-up, would mark the 35th anniversary for Spaceballs.
