I still don't understand what the hell they chosed crabs. I mean, it's pretty easy to make hands that turn into crabs, but have you ever seen a crab in the african jungle? There are some land crabs that live in jungles, but they are usually located in asia. I don't know a single species of terrestrial crab that live in africa.

So, feet will probably become some animal that already looks vaguely like a foot. Like, idk, a slug. Or a lobster. Or a sea cucumber.

Oh, no, wait. The last one looks more like something that should be between your legs, and not at the end of them.

Not so much. Gorillas have bigger and longer arms than humans. A mecha-gorilla that can turn into a humanoid robot is an easy problem to solve. Turning it into a pair of thighs is easy too, you just have to use his arms.

Oh, right. He's a tiger. He looks more like a smilodon with a long tail, that's why i keep forgetting that.
Btw, he could also be seen as a leopard. Or a lioness that for some reason turns into a male looking robot.

And, as I've pointed out countless times, nothing they have yet released has had anything in common with that promo artwork. Is it possible it will be based on Primal? Sure. Its also possible that it was just promo art. Until we see the ape, its all speculation so everybody calling it Optimus Primal may or may not be exceptionally misleading.

 

It's already a team of beasts/bird of prey that includes an herbivore, I feel like there's some built-in wiggle room here.

Also, Africa is home to a number of species of freshwater crabs that live in rivers and wetlands.

 

It would be a damn shame if they showed us pics of the combined mode and ape so we wouldn't be able to speculate any more.

Nothing in common? Do I not own two predacons with a third pre-ordered? Is the promo art predacons? Just because the art style is chibi design with native American apparel doesn't mean the characters depicted aren't in the set.

 

Most of the Predacons' alt modes are animals from Asia actually.

 

Considering the predacons were originally meant to be autobots in the 1984 movie and were later changed to a decepticon team in season 3, what animals they are is irrelevant to the name. Also why do so many on here take the names of the team so literally, they are named predacons because it's catchy not because they are all predators lol.

 

Pretty sure the Predacons ARE all predators, just not the animals that their alt modes are based on.

Fair enough, I was just going on something someone said about a scripted but unused scene for the 1986 movie where ultra Magnus let's the animal autobots out of a zoo like area in autobot city to attack devastator and it was implied the animal bots were the predacons as the toy was designed but had not been used in the cartoon yet.

 

Those are the Anibots, which were going to be used as you say, but were cut and later reworked into the predacons.

 

From what @Ryan F is saying, they didn't get reworked into the Predacons. The Anibots were developed (or at least drafted) after the Predacons, specifically for the original movie, and simply cut.

 

Supposedly they were reworked, based on early model sheets that initially showed them having a faction change and being renamed as anicons, and then finally predacons.
