ME: Ha ha nice try Hasbro, but I already have the cel-shaded Siege Megatron, and the Combat Megatron deco. No way I'm buying the Earthrise mold.
HASBRO: (mixing enormous buckets of green, purple, and orange paint) Is that right

Received G2 Megatron from pulse today and wow did they absolutely nail the deco! The colors are as close to identical as I could have imagined possible. Whomever designed the paint master deserves major applause for this effort. I especially like how they echoed the purple barrel bisecting the tank turret using the purple fusion cannon, very clever. I just wish they'd remolded it a tad more to get the cannon to sit on his shoulder properly. Also, paging toyhax to add the "M" waist sticker and the "big stick" on the barrel. (And maybe a connector to realign the shoulder cannon?)

I've had the original since I bought it at retail in '93 and its always been a favorite of mine both for its imposing size and unabashedly 90's deco. Here is is with my original.

And with the last selects Megatron. They really look like brothers in 90's evil!

Ok, one more green tank homage... combiner wars era Armada Megatron as well... You can really see the design progression through these. The bisecting barrels and the way the feet on the new guy look like the back of the tread sections on the Armada one.

I'd paint the inner vents black instead, like this (sorry I couldn't find a better quality example):

Gives a similar effect in robot mode while looking much better in vehicle mode.

Is it all WFC clear plastics? Because I've heard about people using alcohol to remove the scratching from Siege Soundwave's chest without any issues. Seeing that that lightbar is molded in clear plastic makes me really want to try to correct it, since the lightbar being painted solid red was my main disappointment with Prowl (assuming it's the same way with Ratchet, so they can be made to match. And obviously assuming I'm ever able to actually acquire them...).

Sure, there may be exceptions, but I don’t think anyone is going to test on all types.

Edit: There may be other factors like strength and exposure times.

Really glad to finally have these two BBF’s underneath the (mini) Christmas tree:

Sidenote, these two look so much better in person than they do in photos.

Yeah that feels like the most sensible approach to color breakup here, the conundrum is "cartoon accuracy" vs "the sensible approach.

Opened my smokescreen today being the first night of Hanukkah.* I like him. I had already gotten the upgrade kit for him from tfsafari. The wheel caps really complete the look and can’t wait to take it further with the toyhax set that will eventually come out. The “80” does bother me. Does it beat siege? Well..... yes and no. Yes because it is an earth mode that looks really good in both modes. No because I’m just not a fan of the transformation. The shoulder tabs are not that secure probably being my biggest issue. Otherwise it’s not that different from siege. Also if you guys care, he’s got the tabbed roof/open knees config.

*Im not Jewish but my wife is which by extension my kids also are. Happy Hanukkah!

Got something exciting earlier in the week. Saw a charge for the amount of a 2 pack from Amazon on my card, thought it was the Ratchet set, but when I got a shipping notice, to my surprise it was Ironhide and Prowl! (ordered Aug 7th, no prime). been eagerly anticipating this after the delay

The box was smaller than I thought. Shipped in the brown SIOC box from hasbro so at least they didn't just slap a label on it

    IMG_8303.jpg

Everything was fine and accounted for out of the box but as soon as i turned Prowl's head it popped off. Perfect for me as I had always planned to swap it with the siege and this ER one has a little red splotch on it

    IMG_8294.jpg

Swap looks great. I already had Smokescreen and Bluestreak but getting this Prowl in hand really made me realize how much I dislike the siege mold for the datsuns since I had a direct comparison. I will say though, one thing siege Prowl has going for him is the bits of yellow breaking up the black on the arms and torso. might have to try to add some on the ER version

    IMG_8298.jpg

    Completed Datsun Trio

    IMG_8302.jpg

And absolutely love Ironhide as a character and his classic altmode. Partsforming bothered me less than I thought. great figure and great 2 pack

My Medics shipped. MY MEDICS SHIPPED!!!!!
    Excite.

Well, that's (almost) a wrap for Earthrise for me, barring some exclusives and the Barricade set shipping nex year. Man, reissue the Amazon Coneheads already...
