Not sure I like the battle bra on Prime in the CGI images. But still, he looks good in toy form!

I realize these are meant for younger kids in all, but these toys are a waste of plastic and parts to me.

All this gimmicky stuff will be quickly forgotten like the gimmicky RiD toys were.

When I was 10 I just wanted my tformers to tform. Once they became gimmicks with action masters and pretenders, the line died.
Until it was resurrected by beast wars who simply just transformed.
Except for the gimmicky ones like mole and rav who are still for sale here at a store called Toy Crazy for store price. Even nostalgia cant sell those gimmicky turds.

I feel like prime would be cooler if there was less "prep" for the auto-conversion. And of course if they had more detail and paint.

The gimmicks really aren't that bad, it's that the toys are incredibly cheap on top of that. An Optimus with flip-out armour with actual quality and articulation would be kinda cool even if there were compromises to some degree, but look at how pathetic that axe is. TFA had gimmick figures and they weren't shit.

It's like back in the UT and even into the mainline Animated Hasbro tried to work in fun gimmicks whilst also making the toys transform fully and have articulation. Obviously they never married both seamlessly even with their best examples, but it's like ever since they separated gimmicks from articulation it's become an excuse to make the gimmick toys shitty. I feel like kids aren't stupid, they can appreciate things like articulation and detail. I know I did growing up, and I don't feel like I'm mis-remembering my own childhood.

But... these do transform. That actually is the gimmick in Prime's case. It's the fact that the rest of the figure is crap that's the problem. Beast Wars had gimmick figures, but they were also real action figures. The entire first year of basics were auto-transforming figures and were still great.

Gimmicks don't have to suck, Hasbro just seems to want them too. Maybe so as to not take thunder away from the "real" toys?
