I feel like Megatron should almost be equated to The Avengers' Thanos. I wouldn't necessarily want him to be done right away. Smaller villains like Shatter and Dropkick would be cool, but then the scope could slowly expand to bigger and bigger villains like Starscream or Straxus, with Megatron being the "final boss" of sorts.

 

I think I'd rather have Unicron be built up like MCU Thanos rather than Megatron. Megatron I'd be fine if they brought him on as a recurring character, just not like how they Bay movies did it. Where he came back every film just to lose. It's why I say make him a recurring character rather than villain, we just happen to be against him.

With a character like Unicron, I feel like that's something you would have to risk a long game in order to pull off, you can't just introduce him in the equivalent of the 3rd movie or so like some people suggest. It's Unicron. The big bad. End all be all. Even when he wasn't the God of Chaos in IDW he was built up over time and used as the final boss.

 

Eh, frankly I'd be inclined to stay away from Megatron not so much to "build him up", but to just keep the hell away from him until the stench of the previous movies' utter mishandling of him has worn off.

 

Sure, why not Megatron? To me, Megatron is our Loki while Unicron is our Thanos.

 

I think Unicron would be more comparable to Galactus. Not saying Megatron can't appear until the finale, but there probably should be some sort of buildup. But yeah Unicron would be like the SECRET final boss that's only achievable on hard mode.

I feel like Starscream would be Loki, Megatron would be Thanos, and Unicron would be Galactus in terms of power/relevancy scale.

 

I'd like a trilogy leading up to megs with starscream and the seekers as the antagonist in the first movie, and soundwave and shockwave being antagonists in the second. Maybe throw in bludgeon or lockdown as a wild card.

 

The post comparing Megatron to Loki and Unicron to Thanos I think is how it should be. Not the exact same as Loki, but make Megatron a recurring villain (introduce him in the 2nd or 3rd movie), but make it so he isn't a simple "I'm evil because" villain. Give him reasons for what he does and make him reasonable, but still give us a reason to not root for him.

Heck if we're lucky they could do something like Armada. Have Megatron and Unicron be the final bads while also giving Optimus and Megs emotional and character payoffs.

 

I agree that Unicron should probably be the big-bad of this new movie continuity, but I don't think Megatron should necessarily be as recurring as Loki. I think we could get character development and buildup without showing him in the second or third film. Have Autobots and Decepticons alike reference how revered and formidable he is. It would intrigue and hype people up.

 

As cliche as it may be at this point, I'd still like to see Megatron as the main villain in the next film. Rather than attempt to make him the "Thanos" of the Transformers Film Universe, I think they should make him closer to someone like Tai Lung from Kung Fu Panda (a bit random, I know, but hear me out). Give him one incredibly badass scene early on to establish his skillset and sprinkle in his backstory throughout the film. Then end the film with the final confrontation with the Autobots (and leave him alive for future films).

 

1) There is still a general disconnect between Galvatron and Megatron in the eyes of the general public. Hell, ignoring his forgettable role in AOE, even the fandom had some debates as to whether Galvatron was literally Megatron reborn or just a Megatron clone with his memories and personality.
2) The Uncle Ben storyline has been explored deliberately in two major blockbusters in less than 20 years. Thats why the MCU skipped that story, its been retold so many times in mainstream places that there was no point in retelling the exact same story AGAIN. Meanwhile, the last time the general public saw Megatron become Galvatron on the big screen was in 1986, and even then that movie is super obscure, so thats not a good comparison. Also, the Uncle Ben storyline serves as an origin to Peter as an overall character, not like the Galvatron arcs that usually tend to happen near the end of the stories where that upgrade takes place. The general public hasn't even gotten to know Megatron properly because of how the Bay films mishandled him.

Now, if you take the non-Megatron route to Galvatron, thats an entirely different thing then. Otherwise, you need to build him up and give a proper explanation as to why he would actually change his name.

 

I'm not opposed to that either. The less Megatron there is, the better.

Starscream or Shockwave - whichever one of them discovers Earth, brings a team of Decepticons to wipe out the Autobots and harvest the planet's resources so they can overthrow Megatron.

The Autobots foil their invasion, Soundwave (who's been in the background spying) reports back to Megatron, then the film ends with Megatron arriving on Earth to put Starscream/Shockwave in their place and deal with the Autobots personally.

Boom, there's your hook for Movie #3

 

Have the villains of the movies be minor bosses for a while I think. Let Megatron become more prominent with each movie.

 

I would really say it would be based on how the movies are formatted. If they go like Galaxy Force, where Starscream actually defeats Megatron for a while, then you should have someone, mainly the guy who takes out Megatron, as the main villain. Considering the BB movie's ending, I think that the main villain will be a big Decepticon name, hopefully not one of the biggest names in the franchise. Straxus definitely needs something new, and I think a new take on the trademark is worth doing, especially for Hasbro and its trademarks. Hopefully, he/she doesn't go out in the most shitty way possible.

I'd rather see a whole team of Decepticons both new and old, rather than just one main bad guy.
