Oh and my GI Joe Retro Scarlett or whatever they call that line arrived today. She's neat though it's frustrating that her crossbow is two pieces and don't clip together well so prone to pinging off easily. Also the harness is clearly not designed for her body and I'm guessing is designed for the boys...

That said I am happy to say she is the ideal size to ride TFP Arcee. This please me greatly!

Today I had a shit day after picking up the kids from school. I mean shit. Weather was lousey (rain rain go away, come again another day etc etc) and it was virtually night time and the street lights weren't on yet. This means everyone on the road is a bellend. Plus Google maps also insisted on diverting me towards some roadworks that were gumming up the entire area. CHEERS.

The kids were absolute shits, both not listening, both being unreasonable and both throwing tantrums. So there may have been a lot of shouting today. Anyway after mum got home from work and took them both to Ballet I was off, Smyths Toys with their late night opening beckoned. No kids, just me and some good old fashioned retail therapy. I could take my time and just... browse.

And you know what I saw? Huh. New Halo figures. Supposedly some new 'world scale thing' but looking at them they're 3 3/4" scale... hang on a moment. Could this be the 1:18 Halo figures I've waited almost a decade for? Did you want to know a secret? It's always bothered me that the MacFarlane toys Halo Reach figures have never been to scale with the Jada Toys Warthog I picked up years ago from TRU. Sure you can shove them in, but really? They're really too big.

Now, I've done my research, supposedly the Jada Toys Warthog is 1:18 scale, supposedly perfect for 3 3/4" figures. The problem is any 3 3/4" scale figure I've used has always been dwarfed by the Warthogs dimensions, so I've never populated it them. Besides, GI Joes are poor substitutes for Spartans, amirite? So for 8 years I've been resigned that my little Halo display would never be quite right.

Now I wasn't sure if these new 'World of Halo' would work but because I felt like it I picked up a UNSC trooper and (of course) the Master Chief himself. So I extricated and checked the MacFarlane Toys Halo Reach figures (Hazop, Recon, helmetless Kat and weapons pack all complete down to every little gun post and everything!) and put them aside. They should fetch a pretty penny on eBay when I list them tomorrow.

Anyway before I opened the new guys I checked out some stats on the internet and did some sums... According to the specs a Warthog is 6m long, which works out at 33cm which the Jada Toys Warhog is dead on. Turns out Master Chief is 2.13m tall, which works out at 11.8 cm which this 1:18 scale Master Chief is bang on to. Oooh, thisnis getting exciting thinks I. An average human is 1.7m, which works out at 9.44cm, which again is the height the UNSC trooper works out as. This new line is definitely 1:18 scale!

Now I wanted to use the human as a driver and the Chief on the turret. And actually, these guys are impressively articulated and detailed. Really nice figures, each one has two ball jointed torso joints and the neck is also double ball jointed. Armour parts are rubbery so they don't obstruct the movement, take my word for it, they're good. I don't even know the company that makes them as there's no branding except for Halo and 343 Studios.

But popping the trooper into the drivers seat he again DWARFED by the Warthog. At least the Master Chief sat well enough on the turret. But then I thought why not swap them? The trooper on the turret (he can't get both hands on the turret grips) looks OK, but when I put the Chief in the drivers seat...



OMG, it's perfect. Little did I know that the Warthog is SCALED FOR 7FT SPARTANS. No wonder normal 3 3/4" figures are dwarfed! The Chief sits perfectly in the seat, his hands reach the steering wheel and handbrake lever as if he was made for it! So thanks to some retail therapy today has turned itself around. I mean look at it. I'll deffo be going back and getting the other Spartan to sit in the other seat.

The ironic thing? Smyths also had a Warthog that actually belongs to this toyline. However, looking at the pictures it looks scaled to these 1:18 figures the same as the Macfarlane Reach Figures did to the Jadahog, ie, the new Warthog is undersized... I'm so glad I still have this thing.
