Repaints, huh? With the same number on the side of the box as their first release? Dammit, I'll buy them.
I agree, definitely an improvement in my eyes and Duke would look better with less paint apps that stick out too.
If your like me you probably need to see them side by side to see the differences so I just posted old and new together.
I actually really like the toned down repaints better. Might have to pick them up. Only thing is I know I'm going to be giving away the old versions once I get the new ones.
The roadblock looks way better. They took away the gold on the pants and vest and the gloves aren't bright red anymore. The scarlet however seems to be a miss. The most noticeable difference is the lighter pants color which with the dark shirt just doesn't work for me and clashes. Like a completely different character waist down as opposed to upper half. The only other difference I think is the areas of light blue on the forearms and knees, but those are rather small areas and honestly break up the amount of yellow/gold in those areas that I think it looked better with them.
Oh man. Yeah, that's one of my biggest pet peeves. No way I'd do that nonsense. I have retail nightmares from my time at Target and Wal-Mart explaining to people in loss why a return is actually a charge back and shouldn't be put back on the shelf. The whole practice really grinds my gears. BUT... Targets are starting to put up signs that outside of obvious defects all sales on collectibles are now final. So hopefully that starts a crackdown on that.
The gold areas on Scarlett appear to be brown now and the yellow has been toned down. I think the vest's brown and yellow help to tie the whole ensemble together. Still not ideal but it's better than the first impo.
You right, I couldn't tell that the gold areas were now brown. They do seem less shiny so a more toned down look. That is better. The lighter pants is still an odd look to me but your right, the toned down and not shiny gold is better. I need to actually see it in person to decide if it is worth the money to buy. The roadblock I am almost certain is gonna be worth it to replace my wave 1. That will free up another roadblock for some custom fodder.
Roadblock is 10x better, but really needed light grey pants to be perfect: (and maybe a white shirt under the vest---they still did a weird hybrid of S1 and S2----S2 had green vest, but S1 was sleeveless----Classified is "sleeveless and green vest") Scarlett---different, but not much better IMHO. They still are completely ignoring the obvious "molded-in color-pattern lines" on her torso and painting it "against how it's molded to look". And the colors are still terrible and too many. Such a hugely missed opportunity to do like a simple tan+navy like the original toy, or yellow+grey like the toon. "Blood red thighs" still don't look right and "yellow splotches on metal armor" still looks terrible.
I disagree. Gray pants would simply make it more similar to the RAH figure but not better. For me, gray pants are only meaningful if you change the vest color to be more neon and then add a white undershirt — recreating the RAH design, but that is changing the figure not simply a redeco. But gray pants on this design with this color vest and no shirt wouldn’t look better than this pants color. I appreciate wanting recreations of the RAH designs, but that’s saying you want a different design as opposed to comparing different decos of the same design.
^Good catch, more red less fluorescent orange. Give me vs2 'Block with the lighter green cast from vs1. Give me vs1 Scarlett with vs2 head.
My Scarlett and Roadblock are on their way to ebay. I may pick the repaints up. Right now I'm feeling the Cobra way more than the Joes
