My opinion? Uhh... Yeah, I LOVED Prime's flames. I saw the repaint of the Voyager-class prime toy, and I must admit. The toy and the actual movie character looks a lot "spiffed" of with flames than without. I still don't know why some fans can't just suck it and shut it. He didn't look as bad as I originally thought he would be with flames.
third damn thread i've seen this in, flames ok, could have done crimson front navy back but eh what ya gonna do
Month-old zombie thread FTW? I like the sound of crimson, but maybe a little too dark. (It would look cool)
People dont like the flames because it doesnt suit Optimus Prime's wise, conservative nature, aesthetically. Like someone said, flames are Hot Rod, not Optimus. In the movie they would have made more sense on Jazz. Prime is not flashy....people here said it increases his "awesomeness"....Prime's not supposed to scream "awesomeness".....he's the soft spoken leader of the Autobots, he's more like the college professor you look up to than some gung-ho warrior. And he's always been like that...and he's like that in this movie...which makes the flames not fit in. I cant believe some people are saying they like it....I would think "dont mind it" was the max. Prime with flames and a horseface...and people like? Wow....
Well thank u for tellin us what prime is and is not supposed to be! We thank u great leader! Carry us into a new golden age of what we should think!
Director Michael Bay's reason for giving Optimus Prime flames was that he just wanted them. When I delved deeper into this, I read somewhere that the color red does not show well on film. Thus, in order to give Optimus the G1 color of red, there had to be a compromise. Since the flames cover partially Optimus's cab, it made sense to do this and the rest of the cab could be blue (which looks better on film). Imagine if there were no flames on the movie Optimus Prime. In order to maintain the transformation and allow him to look like a G1 paint scheme in robot mode, the front half of his cab would have to be red and the back of the cab would have to be blue. The transition from red to blue would look odd (purple?) if there were no flames in between the colors. If Optimus Prime's cab was all red G1 style, then his legs would be red, which would look bad. If you want to see a real example, then look at the Voyager Class First Strike Optimus Prime figure, there Hasbro had to color the roof blue in order to show some blue on his legs in robot mode. Even if you did not like the flames, there was a rational reason. As always, the creators could have done better, but it is impossible to please everyone.
