Override is not the first genderswap occurrence in Transformers history. That would also be the case of BW Airazor (female to male in Japan) and Armada Sureshock (female to male in the US cartoon). While I don't see the point of genderswapping those two (and I keep seeing Sureshock as a girl), I feel rather hypocritical for preferring Cybertron Override as female - I guess I do because I enjoyed the quality of the dub and the fembot brought by CN's initiative. However, I can't fully headcanon her as female like I do with Sureshock, since that's not what she was meant to be originally. The character just confuses me overall.

Anyone else feels similarly about him/her?

 

I always assumed that Sureshock... some times called Grindor in the cartoon because of bad dubbing... was female because the human companion was female and they were actually small enough to just hang out with their human companions in the bedrooms... and the idea of Alexis having a boy in her room... even if it is a robot... seems like something that would never fly in the U.S.

Since we're specifically talking about Cybertron Override, she is a fembot. Galaxy Force Nitro Convoy is male. And while the character was male originally... I have a hard time imagining her as a male character. She looks like she was intended to be a fembot given the proportions and more curvy limbs... she's missing "boobs" but her paint job even insinuates cleavage despite the flat chest.

It's similar to Airrazor as a male in Japan.

 

Override is female, Nitro Convoy is male.

 

I herd somewhere that in the intial concept art she was intended to be a she but was later made male in the Japanese and later female in english. That is just a rumor I heard though I am not sure if it is true.

But reslove this like the others have said Nitro Convey is male and Override is female. In your head you are welcome to view them as counterparts or siblings lol.

When I thought about it, I realized there were many differences between UT and MT

 

Nitro Convoy is male, yes. They made him a fembot in the dub for reasons. It doesn't add anything to the character.

Honestly the only time I can recall where I could understand a characters gender being switched was with Digimon Tamers regarding Lopmon because the dubbers just couldn't tell due to him using an outdated dialect in the original and it made his gender impossible to guess.

In my headcanon... Override & Nitro Convoy are Twins. Female and Male respectfully.

 

I was surprised when I learned Nitro Convoy was male originally. She even has high heels!

No, she isn't. Not by a long shot.

Sureshock's was more of a case of inattentive dubbing, (she was also almost always called Grindor) whereas Airazor is literally the exact same case as Override just in reverse.

I mean, what the character was meant to be originally doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of all of Cybertron's other changes for the better. In fact if I didn't know she was originally going to still be male I'd assume Japan was the one who changed her gender, because the character makes so much more sense as female with her relationship with Lori.

He's pink, so in USA you can't be pink and be a boy. That's just silly.

Same with Lordknightmon Crusadermon Pink digimon. In Japan was a male, made a girl for the USA dub.They also changed the manly name to something less manly?

There's not a single spec of pink on Override. She's red and white with black and gold details. (and an orange face in America)



(Also what I wouldn't do for a Cybertron Override update that better matched the show and wasn't hobbled by the auto-transformation gimmick)

 

In the show, she's pink, Optimus is red.

Unless it was specific lighting, Nitro Convoy was red. His toy was red, his CGI boxart was red, and he was red in the show. Same as Override:

For some reason the thumbnail is discoloured to make her look pinker, but she's very obviously red. (well, a desaturated red on the sun-bleached Velocitron, but then even her black and gold parts are also quite muted and faded, as is Hot Shot's blue and yellow)
