A transformers show/comic/movie done similar to a western. Would you watch it? How would you do it? Which characters would fulfill which roles? Is Smokescreen a good gambler? Is Lockdown in it? Let’s hear your takes!
I actually did write a script for the fourth season of my stuff where I basically made Star Saber and Victory Leo the equivalent of these characters:
They kind of did this in an episode of Cyberverse which introduced the character Wildwheel. The reason he takes on that western appearance is because he landed on Earth in the 1800's. The episode even features Billy the Kid, Belle Starr, Doc Holiday, and Butch Cassidy as well as other random human cowboys. That said... I really didn't care for the episode or Wildwheel's goofy Cowboy inspired appearance. I think he looks better in the one image I found without that get up. That's not to say I don't think it could ever work. If they went with the Hearts of Steel designs and adapted that into a series I think it could be really good. In case you're not familiar Hearts of Steel was a comic book series that I think was a "What if" kind of story line like it was G1 if they woke up in the 1800's instead of the 1980's. Most of the Autobots were steam trains. The seekers were Bi planes. I think some of the vehicles in that series actually came later in history but they were all older style vehicles. I believe Megatron was some kind of Civil War era cannon. Some of this might even just be fan art rather than official designs, I'm not entirely sure as I'm not that familiar with the series myself other than it exists. Still if we're going to have a Transformers western I think that would be the best way to go about it. And I do think Lockdown should be in it... I don't know why I just think Lockdown especially with his animated personality, would work really well in a western. I'd also suggest Quickstrike from Beast Wars for obvious reasons.
Hell, I'd still contend that a TF Western is how to do a stand-alone Optimus Prime movie. If you've ever seen any of those old "lone stranger" Westerns where the hero rides in to save a town under siege by the usual gang of outlaws, it's not that far a leap.
You ain't wrong. I mean Optimus' personality is kind of John Wayne-ish anyway. (John Wayne is an actor who stared in a lot of westerns for those who aren't familiar.) Also... I just recently found out that Wildwheel's cowboy hat is removable. He's not even packaged with the hat on. I saw him at Target the other day and he looks a lot better without it. I thought his head was just molded that way but he's actually got a more traditional robot head with the hat as a separate accessory. So anyway... so far I think the cast of this Transformers western consists of Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Quickstrike, Lockdown, and Wildwheel... Oh and we should toss Mach Kick in there too because what's a western without horses?
Beast Wars had several episodes that were Westerns, down to the music and ending animation. Victory is pretty much a Japanese Mecha version of the Rifleman.
Yeah man, that sounds like it'd be awesome. The ending of Coming of the Fuzors part 1 is one of my all-time favorite moments from Beast Wars as a whole.
The original plans for transformers prime season 3 and it's planned sequel, deadlock had a very western theme. Noon shoot outs, train robberies, all the cowboy stuff you can fish for. But Hasbro scrapped that idea in favour of RiD'15
I remember your post about it in the movie ideas thread, and I still like the idea of it. Throw in an expanded roster of Stunticons as the antagonists and make Menasor about the same size as TLK Infernocus, and we're good to go.
