I hope they do look forward now, and not backward, but it doesn’t seem like that the case. Based on what was presented, it certainly seemed like Ben Solo was separated from his parents, which suggests Luke was doing things the old way.
I just don’t understand why people who like the ST keep going back to not being able to accept Luke failing or that anyone can be the hero. This was billed as the “Skywalker Saga,” so you’d expect it to focus on their lineage, not to mention that Obi-Wan Kenobi was the hero of the prequels, and not a Skywalker. And ESB, typically identified as a fan favorite was all about Luke failing. So neither are new ideas.
But it is ok for people to like what they like, I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind; just expressing my opinion based on what has been presented.

I do hope they start moving forward but I doubt that’s the case given whatever the High Republic thing is which just doesn’t interest me at all.

What I mean in regard to Luke’s organization is he doesn’t appear to have a Padawan dynamic, he has Padawans. He takes a bunch of kids or whatever. It’s hard enough to keep your eye on one person let alone a troupe. That’s obviously close to impossible in this case but that’s my point not quite the same. The old Order could maintain control through the Padawan system but then again we aren’t told much about Luke’s.

I do expect the Skywalker Saga to focus on Skywalkers and the ST does, they’re in every episode and it’s about Ben. I don’t think it’s saying solely “anyone can be a hero,” it’s about what it means to be a Skywalker, and what that name means to the galaxy.

When I say people can’t accept Luke failing, I mean utterly failing, like none of his EU achievements come to fruition and he doesn’t rebuild the Order in the way you’d think after ROTJ, unless you know he comes back as a force-ghosts and does it. Sure Luke fails in ESB but not on TLJ level, that’s a lot to except. And I understand why that doesn’t work for some fans. I really don’t expect people to change their minds at this point but hopefully Mandalorian and the shows can keep building out the post-OT world and it works for more fans.

See, I'm one of those fans that ...at least as currently presented in the ST... Luke's failure just doesn't work for me. Now, if in the 30-year interval between the OT and ST they were to re-canonize some of his EU achievements in some way then I could accept that eventually, he fails. It happened in the EU too that he eventually was beaten and broken, but it made sense that he eventually got to that point in the EU. Where, we have no idea what lead up to him thinking that Ben was irredeemable and needed to be murdered, even if it was for a brief second... when the Luke we knew wasn't that kind of guy. Basically, it needs more explanation and buildup to how he got from point A to point B and I'd be fine if that story got told in animation by Filoni at some point as we were discussing over in The Mandalorian thread. Clone Wars worked wonders for making points of the PT much more enjoyable and I think a good series could help the problems people have with some of the ST too. Just my two cents on all of that.

Star Wars Creator George Lucas Releases Statement on Death of Darth Vader Actor David Prowse

“David brought a physicality to Darth Vader that was essential for the character,” the Star Wars creator said. “He made Vader leap off the page and on to the big screen, with an imposing stature and movement performance to match the intensity and undercurrent of Vader’s presence. David was up for anything and contributed to the success of what would become a memorable, tragic figure. May he rest in peace.”

Yeah I hope they do the world-building with the shows that wasn’t fleshed out in the movies. I have no issue with the FO coming on the scene but I would have liked to see it unfold more. I would love to see the FO rise, get Snoke on the scene and have the Knights of Ren tussle with some Mandalorians. I like the factionized, dangerous SW Universe with less centralized power, it makes for limitless badassery and craziness. I get your point with Luke. I guess for me it resonated because that is the one thing I could see defeating Luke.

If you're interested in going forward post ROTJ I always recommend people start with the X-Wing books.

They're well written, easy to get into and picking up with them is the perfect place to start ROTJ lore wise.

Plus, they have a kick ass comic book storyline that partners with the novels, so there's a lot of good stuff there to read.

Well, besides a very certain book trilogy, there are all of the other Timothy Zahn-penned SW novels of the original EU, all three prequel trilogy film novelizations especially Revenge of the Sith, Darth Plagueis, Labyrinth of Evil, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader, Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor, and the Han Solo trilogy by A. C. Crispin especially the second book called The Hutt Gambit. Oh, and all the "Tales Of" anthology novels are very fun too. I still need to read more books from the original EU myself. Same with the comics.

Yeah, I forgot about the Episode III novel trilogy. That's all really good. Isn't that Labyrinth of Evil, Revenge of the Sith, and The Rise of Lord Vader? Rise of Lord Vader in particular is really good.

A lot of the clone wars novels are really good and worth reading. As you said the "Tales Of" anthologies are good.

Yep. There's even a bind-up edition that has all three of them in one book. That book in particular is called The Dark Lord Trilogy.

    https://www.amazon.com/Dark-Lord-Tr...rk+lord+trilogy&qid=1606766587&s=books&sr=1-1

Incidentally, I almost forgot another EU recommendation that I stupidly didn't think of until now which is none other than The Darth Bane Trilogy.
