I like the new X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Smaller and cheaper than the last renditions (which are more accurate to minifig scale but display space can be a concern). I might display them on my desk at work. The new minifigs (General Dodonna and NI-L8) are good incentives too. I'm digging that bonsai tree too. I have the bonus sakura cherry blossom set that came included as the Tokyo Skyline exclusive in Japan and brickbuilt plants can give the illusion of much needed greenery. I plan to display the bonsai tree on my desk alongside the sakura. Seems appropriate for my locale. It's to denote a windscreen for the minifig. Doesn't make much sense in the context of the Falcon given it already has a printed piece to represent the cockpit but it's chibi so I can understand why they did it. I modded the ST micro fighter version of the Falcon that came with Chewie but modded mine to have a seated space for Han to man the top quad laser (along with replacing the dish with a round piece for the OT design). I'll gladly pick up this one for the Han minifig. As for the modular police station rumor, I can only imagine that it'll end up being a vintage Americana version (1930's-1950's?) to appeal to DC Batman fans who are clamoring for a gothic noir GCPD headquarters. I'd happily put a batsignal on top of the roof and populate it with Commissioner Gordon and GCPD officers and crooks they've booked from cleaning up after Batman's heroics.
The first half of next year will be fairly lean for me as well. The only things that interest me at the moment are the Cyber Drone and the lion/ostrich/warthog from Creator. Maybe there’ll be more interesting stuff in the summer. It’d be nice to have another in-house fantasy theme.
Almost forgot about that one, gotta start setting some budget aside. So far 2021 I'm in for 1. Lunar New Year sets 2. Star Wars Mando Tatooine 3. Bonsai and Bouquet (even my wife was impressed). I like the orange/gray Creator drone thing but that should be easy to pick up on sale at some point. Still waiting to see what Speed Champions brings for 2021. Oh and the next modular of course.
I never really have much expectations for this line but in general I'm more enthusiastic for European and Japanese cars, so more of that I guess.
I'm very interested in that new X wing and Tie. At $50 and $40, they're much more in line with what I'd like to spend on these ships, and they still look pretty good. I can see the cost cutting to bring them down from $70, but they still look good to me Its especially interesting to me how for the first time, this official X wing has the cross struts through the fuselage, so that the top right wing is solidly connected to the bottom left wing, and vice verse. A few good custom models use that design idea, and I've always liked it. It seems much better to me than a gear system and rubber bands. It's also in line with how the wings move on screen, through one axis in the center of the fuselage, rather than a separate axis at the base of each wing You can see it here in this pic from Jang's video And the ship actually has rear landing struts!
I'm seeing regular price, is this supposed to be a deal? Speaking of deals, Target has the Harry Potter advent calendar for 40% off ($23.99) but it's in-store only so YMMV whether your local store has it in stock. Another notable deal, the Space R&D people pack is also 40% off - $23.99 is the lowest I've seen and a great price for that set! Good gift for young space explorers in your circles...
Sounds like it's going to be a modular police station. Was hoping for a museum, but maybe we'll get one next time! A museum would be well-suited to a corner building, which will be 2022 if they stick with one every three years.
More. That's pretty much it. I'm not really much of a car buff, so I don't really have any preferences or wants. I just enjoy building them, and the series is relatively inexpensive to get into.
I do like the rear landing struts. Myself, I see this iteration as more of a perfect upgrade to the original 1999 set which started it all. That set didn't use the rubber band mechanism either for the s-foils, but wasn't as structurally sound due to the constraints in the designs back then. This looks like it takes the original design philosophy and adds the benefit of modern mechanisms and pieces that LEGO has developed in the decades since. I just wish there were more prints than stickers. Alas, stickers cost less than printed pieces so no surprise that we're getting them instead. After watching Jang's video, I thought it was odd that he mentioned how R2 is sitting as he should in his space behind the cockpit. The only X-Wing to diverge and build the astromech compartment lengthwise was the 2012 X-Wing. Every other X-Wing set has that space in the correct orientation. I think the issue is that the LEGO Y-Wing releases started to do the same thing with the orientation of their astromech compartments, but more Y-Wing releases used this alternative orientation.
"Normal" Lambos, not the ridiculously rare ones and racing ones. The other 98% of their factory output.
Spoiler: Blurry Photo of new modular my first reaction was “underwhelmed”, but it is growing on me. I suspect a lot is lost in the blurriness.
My first response to seeing this: Those buildings on the side of the police station seem too narrow to have a full staircase inside. Makes me wonder what's inside them at the higher floors and how the minifigs can get there. Through the police building?
yeah - the right side looks like a newsstand with jail cells behind/above it. I suspect those can be accessed from the building. The left is a donut shop? That’s the one I’m intrigued by. I’ll have to see this next to some other buildings. They went for a new look which I appreciate, but it kind of looks incomplete.
