Usually they announce the comic the same time the figure is shown off tho.

So Ultimate Synapse is not Autobot at first time.

Are there Decepticon robots in collaborative line?

not yet. If i had to choose a few:
-KARR (redeco of a potential KITT, retooled from Kingdom Tracks)
-Recognizer (either use the 1982 or Legacy design)
    -HISS Tank (stupid obvious)

I never noticed until it was brought up here, but technically none of the Collaboratives are Autobots. I'm looking now and none of them have faction symbols, and their on-package bios don't mention anything about Transformers lore. If you don't read the comics, there's nothing indicating that these are Cybertronians, probably so the other fandom can enjoy these without having to know anything about TFs.

And I don't know how likely a tie-in comic for this would be. IDW had the licenses for Ghostbusters and Back To The Future already, so having all those properties under one roof made it easy. For this, they'll have to battle it out with Disney/Marvel over how to split revenue. It could happen, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. (I'd LIKE for it to happen, of course. Anything to make me forget the awful New Avengers vs. Transformers, ugh...)

This is basically how I thought the original MP figures were, and they were all the better for it.

    So, i've done some thinking.

Besides KARR, a HISS Tank, and the Recognizer from TRON (or the one from TRON: Legacy, honestly they could use either design), what iconic vehicles would make great Decepticons? X-Spanse, Ectotron, Gigawatt, and Ectotron again are great, but i'm tired of autobots.

honestly i throw around the idea of the Mystery Machine as a decepticon, since "the mystery machine is evil now" is a super common thing in Scooby-Doo and it'd fit much more comfortably into The Classic Scooby Formula than "the mystery machine is a mystery solver now and you have to try to squeeze him into the hallway gag"

They would never do these, but:
Christine,1983 john carpenter horror film based off of stephen king novel. 1958 Plymouth Fury

Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal game series. (murderous icecream truck) This is a dream figure of mine. I think in Twisted Metal Black, he actually partially transforms into a robot as his special move.

There’s any number of Star Wars vehicles that are entirely plausible. That’s kind of a dead horse to beat I guess.

What about a Cylon Raider or Klingon Bird of Prey? A Death Glider from Stargate would be cool, but I don’t know if there’s enough nostalgia for that franchise to be relevant today.

I can just imagine a Transformers Death Glider with a Horus or Anubis motif for the head though and it’d be so cool.

all the good villain vehicles that aren't from Star Wars are super massive, too big to get Collaborative figures. It's actually kind of ridiculous.

I'm only saying KARR because it's an easy redeco or minor retool of KITT.

hey, that means you could make an evil Lightcycle...

Well, "they" wouldn't need to battle it out with Disney/Marvel if they want to do a tie-in comic.

IDW and Marvel hve already had a working relationship for a few years. IDW puts out titles with Marvel characters in books aimed at a younger audience than the typical current Marvel comics buyers. The stories have no connections to the events in Marvel's own books. The line of books is titled "Marvel Action", and had 3 books in the last Previews publication: "Origins", "Spider-Man", and "Captain Marvel". There have been other Marvel characters featured previously in the line. Also, the Marvel Comics section of Previews recently started liting these title as well.

Additionally, Hasbro does have the whole "Marvel Legends" line that they make, so there's a stronger working relationship there. I would imagine that it's also Hasbro that initiates any tie-in comics (selling the toys, of course).

Of course ... the all blue get up and the yellow straps going around the chest with circle X-men logo, the yellow belt with the square X-men logo, and the yellow straps around the upper thigh ... what was I thinking?

Again, blue and yellow are staples of the X-Men uniforms, as are the X-Men logo plastered on the uniform in multiple locations. Yellow straps and pouches are pretty common on the Jim Lee designs as well. X-Spanse has an X across his chest, Jim Lee's Cyclops design has straps in the shape of a y. You're reaching for a connection that isn't there, he is no closer to being the Cyclops design than Ectotron is to being Ray Stanz (because they both have the ecto goggles and Ectotron is wearing a Ghostbusters uniform).

Believe what you want, but X-Spanse is not directly based off of any existing Cyclops design, but it rather a homage to several X-Men.

Except, if he has the visor, you can’t separate the 2. It clearly is an overall reference to Jim Lee’s Cyclops. The only things that appear to homage different X-men are the blast effects. So no ... it is not a reach.
